Careers

Hello Parents/Guardians and Community Members,
We are over the halfway mark for term 1 and our Year 10 students should be close to finalising their work experience placements and are required to bring in all paperwork by 28th March so I can contact all host employers in time to sign off on the insurance for each student to go out on work experience.
We have held many events this term and have many more coming up. Please see the summary of each event held in recent weeks and our upcoming event details outlined below.
Final White Card Course held on 28th February:
Our second group of students attended the White Card course last Friday 28th February, with our students fully engaged in learning the importance of Workplace safety and everyone’s responsibility in following, responding and reporting SafeWork processes in the Construction industry. Students were all well-mannered and fully engaged throughout the day. Students all successfully completed the requirements for the course and were issued with their Certificates at our morning Assembly. Students can expect to receive their SafeWork Safety White Cards in the mail in the next four weeks.
Our next White Card course is to be confirmed later in term 2. Students can come to the careers office to have their name put on the wait list. *All students will need to obtain a Unique Student Identifier Number to participate. I can assist students to obtain this online but will require them to bring in a photo of their Medicare card to obtain this USI. Or students can obtain this themselves by accessing the following website:

TAFE YES Program – Construction Update:
Our group of Year 10 students are now working on their resort chairs and making great progress. Students are demonstrating great teamwork, are engaged and enthusiastically building their projects. I cannot wait to see the finished projects in a few weeks’ time. We thank their TAFE Teacher Chris and as always, we wish to also thank Fee Smith for her tireless work and advocacy for our students.
Last week’s Guest Speakers:
Charles Sturt University Early Entry Talk – Held on Wednesday 5th March
This past week our senior students had the opportunity to speak directly with our CSU Student Liaison Officers to spoke about all things CSU, who guided students through the CSU Advantage Early Entry program and discussed accommodation options, scholarships and pathway options to uni. Students were given instructions on how to best respond to the specific criteria for the Charles Sturt Advantage program and what examples they could use in their responses. Students were able to ask any questions they had and can follow up with Mrs Ing for help in applying to CSU in the coming weeks. CSU Early Entry is now open for applications.
Legal Aid Visit - Held on Wednesday 5th March 2025:
Also, on Wednesday 5th March we were fortunate to have Karina visiting from Legal Aid NSW. Karina is a lawyer presented a very important and informative talk on Workplace Rights to our Year 12 and Year 7 students. Our students were able to fully engage in session and gave some great responses to the discussion and learned more about how to navigate their workplace rights as young people entering the workforce. We sincerely thank Karina for travelling down to the Riverina from Sydney to speak with us about this very important issue. Karina has a natural ability to discuss such sensitive issues with students and shared a wealth of knowledge, giving students such relevant and real-world advice that they can use in the future. Thank you, Karina! Students are welcome to speak to me in the careers office if they have any follow-up questions after this presentation.
