Open Girls Cricket

The Narrandera High Open Girls Cricket Team recently competed in a gala day in Leeton.

In their first game they came up against an impressive Yanco Ag team. Yanco’s opening bowler took 8 for 3 including a hat trick. The highlight of our batting performance was Hannah Beer carrying her bat and ending up on 2 not out after facing the first ball of the innings. We were bowled out for 23. Yanco made light work of the small total, chasing down the runs in 5 overs with the loss of one wicket. We played on after the winning run which allowed our bowlers to show what they were capable of. In the end Julia Walsh, Gemma Hugo and Sarah Hewitt all took a wicket each with Isla Donaldson taking 2 in 2 balls!

In the second game we played Leeton High. With the game reduced to 15 overs our team batted out the innings losing only three wickets and posting a total of 55. Our bowling performance was excellent with many individual performances. Gwen Durnan, Hannah Beer and Julia Walsh all took wickets. Gemma Hugo showed her skill in the field with 2 run outs while Sienna Lyons took two impressive catches. Leeton High fell short of the total and Narrandera High completed a well earned victory.

Congratulations to all the girls who took part in the day. Their enthusiasm and encouragement of each other was outstanding. Thank you to Julia Walsh and Hannah Beer for their efforts in the team over many years. They showed excellent leadership in encouraging and helping the younger players in the team.

A huge thank you to Nick Perram and Ross Durnan for umpiring and scoring.
