PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

The Moorabbin Primary School Community touch the land and think of the Bunurong People and surrounding Clans of the Kulin Nation who cared for the land before us.
We share our gratitude to their Elders past, present and emerging.
As we touch this land, we promise to treasure it, taking care of all its people,
animals, plants and waterways.
We at Moorabbin Primary School appreciate this land.
Dear Parents and Carers,
MOTHER’S DAY LUNCHEON FUNDRAISER
It is with absolute pride and appreciation that I share with our community that this amazing event raised $13,300 – we are all blown away with the efforts of our community and a big congratulations to the organising committee. Mel, Emma, Sally, Lucy, Kristie, Felicity and Amelia. These incredible women put on such a special day for our incredibly deserving mums who had a chance to come together have some fun, get dressed up and enjoy the company of each other in a beautiful venue with lovely food, music and electric atmosphere. We thank you so very much and are so blessed to have you in our school and part of our community. THANK YOU!
The monies raised from this fundraiser will be added to the Building and Grounds fund to upgrade the space in front of the art room. This is a mock design of what our children will have to look forward to once the works commence. We are waiting for a final draft and quote, and we will be ready to start this project soon. Along with building new garden beds for our garden and sustainability program and a new water system to ensure the plants that were planted continue to grow and flourish. I can’t wait to share these updates with you all.
KINGSTON JUNIOR MAYOR PROGRAM
Our students recently had the exciting opportunity to attend the Moorabbin Town Hall to participate in the Kingston Junior Mayors Program, joining students from schools across the Kingston network for an inspiring and highly competitive civic leadership experience. The program provided students with an authentic opportunity to develop their public speaking, leadership and community engagement skills, with participants presenting in front of the Mayor of Kingston, fellow students from other schools, parents, teachers and an official selection panel.
Students were required to confidently share their ideas, perspectives and commitment to making a positive contribution to their community, demonstrating courage, preparation and leadership under pressure. The standard of presentations from schools across the municipality was exceptionally high, making the selection process incredibly competitive.
We are incredibly proud to share that Moorabbin Primary School Student Captain, Eve Partridge, was successfully selected to join the Kingston Junior Council for 2026–2027, an outstanding achievement and a testament to her confidence, leadership and passion for student voice and community involvement. This opportunity will see Eve work alongside other student representatives from across Kingston, contributing ideas and perspectives on matters important to young people within the community.
We look forward to hearing about Eve’s experiences, learning and the important work she will undertake as part of the Junior Council, and we know she will represent Moorabbin Primary School with pride, maturity and enthusiasm. Congratulations, to all our other leaders who supported on the day. Thank you to Dom, Sophia and Jake, on this wonderful achievement and to Ms Mahon for her outstanding preparatory work and for accompanying the students!
FAREWELL MRS VORPASSO AS SHE COMMENCES HER MATERNITY LEAVE
As you prepare to begin this exciting new chapter, we wanted to take a moment to sincerely thank you for all of your hard work, care and dedication over the past few years at Moorabbin Primary School. After returning to MPS following a short break, you stepped back into school life with warmth, professionalism and an unwavering commitment to the students and staff around you. Your care for students, positive presence and willingness to always contribute have been deeply valued, and you have made a genuine difference to our school community.
While we will certainly miss having you at MPS each day, we are incredibly excited for you as you prepare to welcome your new little one. Parenthood is such a special journey, and we hope this next chapter brings you much joy, love and many precious moments.
Thank you again for everything you have contributed to our school. We wish you a healthy, happy and restful maternity leave, and we look forward to hearing all about your newest arrival when the time comes. From all of us at MPS!
YEAR 5 PARLIAMENT EXCURSION
Despite the wet and rainy weather, our Year 5 students recently enjoyed a fantastic excursion to the Victorian Parliament House in the city, bringing their Humanities learning to life in a truly memorable way. Students had the opportunity to explore the historic and magnificent building, learning about the rich history of politics and government in Victoria while gaining a deeper understanding of how laws are made and decisions are debated. One of the highlights of the day was visiting both parliamentary chambers, where students were able to learn about the roles of the Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council and see firsthand where important decisions for our state are made.
Students were especially excited to have the rare opportunity to view and touch the Parliamentary Sceptre, an important symbol of authority within Parliament, and participate in a mock parliamentary session where they took on the role of Members of Parliament and engaged in debate. The grandeur of the building, combined with the interactive experiences and guided tour, made for an engaging and authentic learning experience. It was a wonderful day of learning that strongly connected to the unit students are currently exploring in their Humanities lessons, helping deepen their understanding of democracy, citizenship and government in Australia.
Many thanks to Ms Wood, Mrs Tsekouras, Mrs Feren, our aide Kat and to all our parent helpers who made this excursion possible.
FOUNDATION FIRST NATIONS INCURSION
Our Foundation students recently enjoyed a wonderful First Nations incursion, providing a rich and engaging opportunity to deepen their understanding of Australia’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and histories. Throughout the session, students had the chance to listen to traditional Indigenous music, explore a range of cultural tools and artefacts, and learn about the deep connection First Nations peoples have to Country, land and community. Students were particularly fascinated by the opportunity to view and touch animal furs and learn about how natural resources were traditionally used in everyday life.
One of the highlights of the experience was the opportunity for students to actively participate through movement and dance, creating a fun, hands-on and memorable learning experience. It was fantastic to see our youngest learners so engaged, curious and respectful as they asked thoughtful questions and embraced new learning. This meaningful incursion provided a wonderful lead into National Reconciliation Week next week, helping our students build understanding, appreciation and respect for First Nations cultures and perspectives as part of our ongoing commitment to reconciliation and inclusion at Moorabbin Primary School.

Word laughter day and crazy sock day
I would like to finish my newsletter by showing my appreciation to our incredible office and support staff, May 16th and again on August 31st we celebrate Education Support (ES) Staff.
I would like to proudly acknowledge and celebrate the incredible contributions of our Education Support (ES) staff, the people who work tirelessly behind the scenes and alongside our teachers to ensure our school community thrives each and every day.
At Moorabbin Primary School, our ES staff are so much more than support staff, they are educators, mentors, problem-solvers, listeners, nurturers and calm, caring faces for so many of our students and staff! Whether working in classrooms, supporting students with additional needs, assisting with wellbeing, administration, first aid, library services, maintenance, learning interventions or helping our school operations run smoothly, your contribution is both significant and deeply valued.
The impact you have on the daily lives of our children often happens quietly and without recognition, but it never goes unnoticed. The patience, compassion, flexibility and expertise you bring each day help create safe, supportive and inclusive learning environments where students can grow in confidence and experience success.
Many of our students build incredibly strong and trusting relationships with our ES staff, and the care you show often extends far beyond the classroom walls.
Our schools simply could not function without the dedication, commitment and professionalism of Education Support staff. Thank you for the countless ways you support our students, staff and families, often stepping in wherever needed with kindness, humour and unwavering care.
Today, and every day, we celebrate and thank you for the extraordinary difference you make to the lives of others. 💙
