MOCA receives funding for Mental Health and Wellbeing initiative
The Mazenod Old Collegians Association (MOCA) has secured a Community Support Grant through the Suburban Rail Loop Authority Community Projects Fund, announced recently alongside Victorian Premier and Leader of the Labour Party, Jacinta Allan, local Members of Parliament John Mullahy and Eden Foster, and members of the Mazenod community.
The grant funding will support a new mental health and wellbeing initiative within the Mazenod Old Collegians’ Association, including Mental Health First Aid training to help establish a peer support network across the Old Collegians community.
The initiative follows the tragic loss of several members of the community in 2025 and reflects a commitment to strengthening awareness, connection, and support among Old Collegians.
We acknowledge the leadership of Phil Ryan (MOC1988), Brendan Neil (MOC1983), and the MOCA Executive in developing and driving this important initiative.

Strong results at Volleyball Victoria One Day Schools Cup
More than 200 Mazenod students represented the College at the Volleyball Victoria One Day Schools Cup Series, held at Dandenong on Tuesday 5 May. The day included 92 Year 7 students, 63 Year 8 students, and 57 Year 9 students, with 21 teams competing across multiple divisions. For many of the Year 7 students, it was their first opportunity to wear the Nodder jersey and represent the College in competition.
Mazenod achieved strong results across the day.
In Year 7 Division 1, three teams finished 2nd, 3rd, and 4th. In Year 7 Division 2, six Mazenod teams competed, finishing 1st, 2nd, and 3rd.
The Year 8 teams also performed strongly. In Division 1, Mazenod teams finished 1st and 2nd after a close match that required a Golden Point to decide the result. In Division 2, five teams competed, with Mazenod finishing 1st and 3rd.
Year 9 continued the strong results, with two Division 1 teams finishing 1st and 2nd, while the Division 2 teams also produced a 2nd place finish.
The next major event for the program is the Volleyball Victoria State Schools Cup for Years 9 and 10, where students will begin the qualifying pathway towards the Australian Volleyball Schools Cup in Queensland in December. Congratulations to all students involved on a strong day of competition and representation for Mazenod.
Primary School Experience Day at Mazenod
On Thursday 14 May, Mazenod College welcomed prospective Grade 4 and Grade 5 students and their teachers from St Justin’s and St Simon’s for our Primary School Experience Day.
The day gave visiting students an opportunity to explore life at Mazenod through a range of activities and experiences across the College.
The morning began with a welcome in the Lecture Theatre, including a short question and answer session with some of our junior leaders. Students then explored parts of the campus before taking part in activities across Science and Sport. The Science sessions included a diseases experiment and bacteria model activity, while the sport sessions gave students the chance to try volleyball, table tennis, and basketball. After lunch on the Soccer Oval, students visited the Robotics Showcase in the Founders' Courtyard before gathering in the Chapel for prayer and farewell.
Thank you to the students and staff from St Justin’s and St Simon’s for joining us, and to the Mazenod staff and student leaders who helped guide the day. It was a positive opportunity to welcome future families and share the learning, community, and spirit of Mazenod College.
Year 7 Time & Space Evening
Following Mother’s Day, our Year 7 students welcomed their mothers and significant women in their lives to last night’s Time & Space event.
This year marked our largest attendance to date, with more than 150 pairs taking part in the evening. The event provided a meaningful opportunity to pause, talk, and strengthen the relationships that support students through the early years of secondary school. It also highlighted the importance of open communication during adolescence, and the role connection plays in our wellbeing.
All the best,
Dr Paul Shannon
Principal
