Principal's Message

Dear Sunshine Heights Parents and Carers,
The highlight of the last two weeks have been some wonderful community events that have taken place at our school. We pride ourselves on leaning into our school value of connection and this was displayed in full flight during our Trivia Night, Mother's and Special Person's Day morning tea and Twilight School. All of these events provided opportunities for families to engage as a community brought together by a shared love of our school.
Trivia night was another raging success and there were many great moments but the very competitive and firecely battled musical chairs competition filled the room with laughter and spirit. Thanks must also go to Gareth Crawford for again allowing us to use Sunshine Social for the event and providing delicious food on the night.
Mother's and Special Person's Day was celebrated in style at the Specialist Hub with coffee and pastries and craft activities. We had a packed gym of parents and we heard from our student leaders about why they value their mums.
Twilight School shone like a diamond this year as we enjoyed the stretch of warm weather and shared dinner together as the sun set over the west. It was wonderful to see parents in classrooms showing their children how much they value the education they receive at our school. A special thank you to our teachers and the large amount of ES staff who were happy to adjust their hours and their home lives to make this important event happen.
Speaking of our ES staff, this week we celebrated ES week with a morning tea on Wednesday. From Vicki, Adriana and Rebecca in the front office all the way through to our tireless team of Teacher's Aides and Allied Health staff we are indebted to the wonderful contributions they all make to Sunny Heights.
Finally, it has come to the attention of staff that some children are using physical objects in our school to play in unsafe ways. We enjoy some diverse and engaging spaces around our school in which children can explore and play. We ask that parents support us by reminding children that objects like rocks and sticks can cause harm if played with inappropriately. Lately we have had examples of children throwing rocks carelessly and it causing some unintended harm to others. Staff will be extra vigilante on yard duty to ensure children use elements of our environment safely and respectfully. Conversations at home that re-affirm these messages are helpful and much appreciated.
Best wishes,
Sunny Heights Leadership Team
