Sandhurst Division Cross Country

By Junior Sports Captains, Thomas and Archer.

Last Friday the 22nd of May, a select group of students from Charlton College represented the school at the Sandhurst Cross Country in Bendigo. A very big thankyou to Mrs Fitz for organising it all and also to Tim Smyth, Dan and Emily Lane, Rach Lloyd and the grandparents who came along to help with transport and to support us.

The 9 and 10 year old students had to run 2kms and the 11 year old students ran 3kms around the Bendigo Racecourse with over 200 children in each age group. It was quite a warm day to run and everyone did an amazing job with so many other students from other schools down there to compete against. Results were: Tyson (10 year old boys) 119th, Noah (10 year old boys) 117th, Nate (10 year old boys) 85th, Wally (11 year old boys) 57th, Sophie (9 year old girls) 52nd, Maisie (9 year old girls) 31st, Don (11 year old boys) 29th and Archie (11 year old boys) 24th.

National Simultaneous Storytime

Gallery Image

This week, a themed display of Luna Roo has taken pride of place at the entrance to our building.

On Thursday, our Foundation to Year 6 students participated in National Simultaneous Storytime. Luna Roo, written by Adam Wallace and Adrian Beck and illustrated by Jake A. Minton, tells the inspiring underdog story of Luna, a young kangaroo who learns to overcome self-doubt and step up as rookie captain. The story highlights the important values of courage, teamwork, and perseverance.

Following the reading, students enjoyed learning how to draw Luna with guidance from the illustrator. They then designed their own football uniforms, which have been proudly displayed on a football field mural in the school library.

A big thank you to the Charlton Neighbourhood House for generously providing copies of the book for our classrooms. We are very grateful for your support and for giving our students access to such a wonderful story.

The excitement is heating up! Only a couple of weeks before the Year 5 & 6 students head down to Melbourne to experience what the city has to offer. Information and permission forms are now available on Compass. Parents can also find an itinerary, packing list (from urban camp) and social story.

Campbell reported on Michael Voss’s resignation as Carlton’s Coach.

Voss resigned after a 9-game losing streak, after coaching Carlton for 5 seasons. What Campbell found was interesting was that Voss is a 3-time AFL Premiership Captain, who previously coached another AFL side and was sacked, and that he resigned prior to being sacked.

Campbell believes the event is important because Voss was a famous footballer, and it is really important because Carlton have to find a new coach now in the middle of the season. One question Campbell would like to ask is, why did he keep coaching Carlton when they are really bad?
