Art and Science in Year 1/2
In this term's Art lessons, we are exploring Alexander Calder's sculptures. He was famous for inventing interesting mobile and stabile sculptures. This week we were inspired by some of his giant metal stabile sculptures and made smaller versions out of paper. This involved careful drawing and cutting, and the students had a ball!
In Science, we have been learning about materials, their properties and the ways that they can be changed through bending, stretching, twisting, squeezing and joining together. To see this in action, Class 2K used pipe cleaners to create little flowers, using the above methods to create the final product.
All the students were so proud of their creations.

SACSA Cross Country
We were incredibly proud of all the students who competed yesterday. Their effort, attitude, and willingness to challenge themselves reflected the values we hope sport helps to develop in young people.
We had Jobe C (Year 4) come home with a 3rd place ribbon, and Imogen E (Year 7) came in 1st place, and our Year 7 team came in Runners Up.
With over 100 competitors on average in each race, your child may feel like they didn’t do well because they didn’t receive a ribbon. However, on the bus ride back, we chatted about the many “invisible wins” that deserve to be recognised and celebrated.
Some of these invisible wins included:
- Showing courage to stand on the start line
- Continuing when things became difficult
- Beating a previous personal result or time
- Supporting and encouraging teammates
- Managing nerves and uncertainty
- Demonstrating resilience and determination
- Representing our school with pride and excellent sportsmanship
- Competing at a large competitive event
It takes courage to step outside your comfort zone and perseverance to keep going when things are challenging, qualities that matter far beyond the finish line.
A special mention and thank you also to our wonderful parent volunteers, who continue to support the management and care of students (and teachers!) throughout the day. Your time, encouragement, and willingness to help are greatly appreciated and play such an important role in making events like these possible.
Thank you also for your support in helping students prepare for and participate in the day.

Mother's Day Afternoon Tea
We want to say a huge THANK YOU to our Parent Volunteers for creating such a beautiful spread of food!
With over 100 mums in attendance, the room was full of chatter, connection, and new friendships forming. The students had a blast making bath salts, tomboys and gifts with their mums in the classroom.
We’re so grateful for the love, care and joy our mums bring to our community every day.
The Year 6 Students' unforgettable trip to Kangaroo Island
Our Year 6 students recently returned from an unforgettable camp on Kangaroo Island, where they embraced the great outdoors in partnership with Beyond the Classroom, specialists in outdoor education. The camp was designed to help students build life skills through hands-on experiences that encouraged growth, exploration, and connection with nature.
Highlights of the trip included sandboarding at Little Sahara, up-close encounters with sea lions at Seal Bay and fur seals at Flinders Chase National Park, an exciting Ocean Safari boat cruise, Raptor Domain and interactive wildlife sessions. The adventure continued with games, team-building activities, and of course, the excitement of a ferry ride 'overseas'!
SACSA Year 3-6 Athletics Day
Held on 1st May, 37 Brooklyn Park students represented Emmaus exceptionally well at the SACSA Athletics Championship 2026, competing against schools of a similar size with pride, determination, and outstanding sportsmanship.
Their efforts were reflected in an incredible set of results with 34 podium finishes:
- 7 First places
- 15 Second places
- 12 Third places
It was fantastic to see their effort and attitude throughout the day, and even better to return with more ribbons than I have fingers and toes! Just as importantly, the way our students conducted themselves was a real credit to our College.
Their behaviour, encouragement of one another, and positive spirit did not go unnoticed.
We thank our parents for their support and participation on the day.

A message from YMCA OSHC
Thank you, everyone, for a wonderful Vacation Care! It was great to see all the children from South Plympton again and to work with Amy.
Highlights of Vacation Care included a session at Bounce and at AFL Max, which were completely booked out. Children celebrated the history and culture of China, learned about the 1950s, learned how to make things from junk with a visit from Local Thrift Project and also Rosalind Giles. We had the most adorable and interesting visit from Animals Anonymous - the host said that the children here are ‘angels’. We all got to cuddle a quokka! We did cooking, dancing, gaming, used fine and gross motor skills, creativity, played outside, used engineering skills, social skills, read books, had adventures and used so much imagination. We are already planning the next Vacation Care!
Here are some comments from the children:
“I loved playing with my friends all day”
“Bounce was amazing!”
“I loved doing different crafts”
“Can Local Thrift Project come back another time?”
“I learned about snakes”
“I want to make more tiny things”
“I liked trying to dance rock’n’roll for 50s day!”
“Thank you for letting me run activities”
“I love playing with old sheets outside!”
“This is what kids used to do in the olden days, use imagination all day”
“I don’t get big boxes to play with at home!”
“I’m so tired, I’ve been playing all day”
“Thank you for planning this, Nyree!”
