World's Greatest Shave

On Friday 22 March, 11 courageous students from Girton Grammar’s Junior School will shave their heads to raise money and awareness for the Leukemia Foundation, and many others will support the cause by sporting crazy and creative hairstyles.

Students from Girton Grammar have embraced this annual fundraiser for 17 years, last year raising approximately $30,000 to fund valuable research to beat blood cancer, which takes the lives of 16 Australians every day.

In addition to the money raised through sponsorship of the participating students, the Junior School Student Representative Council is bolstering the fundraising efforts by selling icy poles at recess.

The Deputy Head of Girton Grammar’s Junior School, Mrs Viv Bath, who is a passionate advocate for the event, said the World’s Greatest Shave represents more to the students than an opportunity to change their hairstyle.

“While the shave is certainly a fun and exciting spectacle to behold, it is also very moving to see such young students making a sacrifice of this magnitude,” Mrs Bath said.

“It shows not only their courage but their commitment to a cause that affects so many Australians.”

“The students are also very proud to carry on the school’s long legacy of raising funds and awareness through the World’s Greatest Shave.”

The school thanks Stephen Mow Hair Studio for providing hairdressers for this event.

As of Thursday 7 March, Girton’s Junior School students have raised $9,700 towards their goal of $20,000.
