Classroom News

PREP

We are SO excited that tomorrow is our very first sports day over at the Lake Oval. Please come to school with your school bag - only bring your drink bottle and your lunchbox for the day. Please dress up in your house colour. This doesn’t have to be much - a tshirt or hair ribbon will be more than ok.

All parents and families are welcome to share this day with us.

We will be heading over to the oval for our sports day, commencing at 10:25am and will be sitting in our house colours before starting the tabloid sports. Fun food - a sausage in bread, will be served at 12:15 if your child wishes to have one. We will then have our relay race and sprints. For more specific times check out the DOJO post.

Presentations will take place and then we will head back to school.

You are welcome to take your child home from the oval, as when we get back to school your child won’t be missing anything but you must tell us first please, just so we know who we have and don’t have when doing a roll call.

Thank you to everyone who came to our Beginning of the Year BBQ. It was lovely to see so many families all sharing in a beautiful meal.

Here is what our Preps had to say about their favourite things this week!

“Playing in the playground, going on the slide and the monkey bars. Also, learning our numbers. “ - Theo Groves

“I liked having the school photos with my class and doing weekend writing.“ - Tannah Quigley

“Playing in the playground with my friends.“ - Eana Soliman

“Playing outside. Ezra was so funny when he was going down the slide and did a rolley polley”  - Archie Roberts

GRADE 3/4

This week our Year 3 students have had a busy week with NAPLAN testing beginning. We have spent the past few weeks preparing students for the types of questions that may arise, to give them the best chance of success. We have been very proud of their attitude and how they have given each test their best. On Wednesday we completed the NAPLAN writing task, and today Reading and Conventions of Language. Next Monday we will complete the Numeracy Test.

As the term comes to an end, we are finishing our Health unit by designing our own board games. These games are based on our learning of the importance of physical activity and the natural and manmade places where we can complete physical activity in our community. We are enjoying making these and look forward to playing these games with you at home.

Here are some examples of what you will find on our board games-

Alex-

Went for a walk at Lake Colac. Roll again

Tadeo-

Play at the Central Reserve. Move forward 4 spaces.

Sydney

Go to the Bluewater Gym on the weekend. Roll again.

Paddy

Go for a walk at the Botanical Gardens. Go forward 3.

Cian

We are excited for our School Sports tomorrow. We look forward to dressing up in our house colours, participating in the events  and cheering everyone on.

GRADE 5/6

Week Six

On Monday the 4th of March, the year fives and sixes had a wonderful visit from past St Mary’s students who are now in year 7 at Trinity.

Last Thursday after school at 6pm we had our school BBQ and we all had a wonderful time.

The year 5’s finished their last kinder visits last week.

On Friday they also had an incursion on Google Meet with Toolbox about Emotional Regulation. The Grade 6s did the incursion too.

In Grade 5 last week we had a Persuasive text [Big Write] and we all got to choose our own text from a variety of other texts e.g. every child should know a different language, summer is better than winter and books are better than T.V. etc

Week Seven

On Wednesday the school had school photos. Every child had a wonderful smile.

The Grade 5s started NAPLAN with a writing test on Wednesday. On Thursday they had the Reading and Language Conventions NAPLAN and we all hope that everyone had their best go at it.

On Friday we will have our wonderful sports day (house colours).

There will be no more icy-poles from Monday next week because we are going into the colder months.

Bryce Crabbe, Saba Hussaini and Xander Ferlazzo

Tomorrow, Rachel's class will be presenting their Prayer Gathering around Reconciliation. We pray for all the children who have celebrated and who are still to celebrate Reconciliation this week.  Jade's class are leading Prayer Gathering next week.

Reconciliation Reflections:

The Reconciliation celebration was good because Fr. Michael told stories about people getting welcomed back by everyone even if they have sinned a lot, it is forgiven. Like me even I have sinned and been forgiven.

Harrison McGuane

On Tuesday I celebrated my senior Reconciliation. Before we went, me and my Mum talked about what it actually is and means. When you get there you talk to the priest one on one. He talks about times you have asked for forgiveness, times when somebody has asked you for forgiveness, what is something you can do to make you a better person etc. He tells you about forgiveness in Jesus’ stories and talks to you about Reconciliation. At the start I felt nervous, but by the end I felt happy because it wasn’t scary at all.
