Hello Year Four families,

Fortnightly Curriculum Focus

Literacy: In Reading, Year 4 students are building on their comprehension strategies through the novel Fearless Frederic by Felice Arena. Students are working on making Text Connections via themselves, to another text or a world connection in relation to our class novel.

In Writing, we have been working our way through the Writing Process on a free narrative of their choice. Students have also been focusing on their sentence formations, including subjects, objects, verbs and adjectives to make their writing more engaging. Each week students have also been given time for independent writing and a “Quick Write”.

Numeracy:  In Numeracy, Year 4 students have focused on Addition and Subtraction. During these units, students have been reflecting on their Place Value knowledge to further support their problem solving skills in these areas. Students are continuing to use online programs such as Essential Assessment, reinforcing skills whilst targeting a specific individual goal. Students are also participating in differentiated tasks, hands on games and worded problems. 

Inquiry: In weeks 5 & 6, students have focused on what particles are and how states of matter change making solids, liquids and gases.

PlayPod

This fortnight Year 4 students have been introduced to the Play Pod. Students voluntarily participate to be a monitor in this program to support the younger students during lunch times. Students learned the roles and responsibilities of being a Play Pod monitor, how to set up and pack this equipment away and guiding younger students in their play. Enjoy the pictures below.

Bike Ed & Beach Program 2024

All students in grade 4 have had the privilege of participating in Bike Education over the last few weeks as well as 4S participating in our cold water swimming program at Williamstown Beach Surf Lifesaving Club and Bike Education. Students learned how to check if their bike is safe to ride and how to tackle a challenge when riding. Please enjoy the pictures below.
