Year Two Team News

with Steph, Joel and Georgia

Hello Year Two families,

It is hard to believe that we are already past the halfway mark of Term 1. Classroom routines have been well and truly established and our students are continuing to impress us with their determination to work towards being the best Willy Kids they can be. Today we enjoyed a visit from Life Ed and our students enjoyed a session on growing friendships and the qualities that are pertinent to maintain these friendships in a safe and respectful manner.

We have continued to work on our Term 1 inquiry unit ‘Where are we and what is around us?’ and have enjoyed many conversations about our knowledge of Williamstown. It has also led to us beginning to ask questions about the history of Williamstown and the importance of acknowledging just how far back that history can go. These discussions have prompted students to consider their own and other people's values in relation to the importance of the environment around us. Our oral presentations began this week and the students that have already presented on their special place in Williamstown have done a terrific job! We look forward to hearing more wonderful presentations in the coming weeks.

Curriculum Focus: Weeks 7 - 8

Literacy: For the next couple of weeks, we will be writing our own stories based on the idea of our pet having super powers.

Numeracy:  Students are using addition and subtraction strategies and applying them to open ended problems.

Inquiry: We are learning about our local area reflecting on why it is important to us.

Willy Kids: Through the pillar of Respect, we are learning about consideration and how we can consider other people around us. We will discuss what this looks like both in the classroom, in the school yard and in real life experiences out of school.

Important Dates Coming Up:

  • Local Williamstown Walk: Monday 18th of March: if you are a parent that is interested in attending this walk as a parent helper, please get in contact with your child’s teacher. Please note that to attend the excursion the school needs to have a copy of your working with children check and you need to have completed the schools volunteering requirements that were sent out on compass at the beginning of the year.

Photos of our students during class: Please see below some photos of our Grade 2 students from the past two weeks.

Until next time,
