News from 5/6
Kayaking
Last Thursday, 27 of our senior students attended a kayaking day at Lilydale lake and spent an hour and a half paddling, splashing and getting wet. They were all very enthusiastic about it when they returned to school on Friday - but strangely also very weary!
Assemblies
Both Senior classes have had their turn at presenting at assembly now. We have been very impressed with their confidence and responsible leadership at assemblies.
Cookies
While many of us were kayaking, a small group of seniors had a fantastic time and learnt about measuring while making cookies with Ms Urquhart.
Parent / Child 'Things are Changing' Zoom session
As part of our 'Identity' unit, the Year 5/6s have a special parent/child night n Monday the 18th March, which will be held via Zoom and features a guest speaker. Check your Operoo and emails for further details.
Identity - Dealing with Pressure
As part of our Identity unit, we have been exploring the different pressures that can be put on people to change who they are (eg peer pressure) We've been thinking about strategies to avoid making choices that don't really fit with us and practising in small drama situations.
Being Responsible with School Equipment
As part of our Positive Behaviours for Learning program, we revised ways of being responsible with equipment - with a focus on playground equipment. The children practised using equipment responsibly and safely and then putting it away. Sophie, Clara and Harper also created a song/performance based on using skipping ropes.
Coming Up
Naplan - Next week on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday our Year 5s will be doing Naplan Tests.
Twilight Sports night - Wednesday 13 March. Our Year 6 sports leaders will be vying to lead their house to victory at the St Joseph's twilight sports.
Friday 15 March - Our Year 6s are travelling to St Pat's Cathedral in the city for the St Patrick's Mass.
