Konnichiwa! We had some exciting lessons happening in Japanese classes in 2024.
In foundation class, we are getting used to the routine of our Japanese class and learned about some cultural seasonal events like Hinamatsuri "Girls (Dolls) Festival" on the 3rd of March.
In Grades 1 and 2, we are practicing the song called Oni no pants "Demon's underwear" and hopefully they can perform this in the assembly this year. They also have introduced one-line Hiragana from this term and practice and recognise them regularly throughout this semester.
In Grades 3 and 4, they have experienced Water Calligraphy to practice before they can use real ink for Japanese Calligraphy. Most children in Japan learn calligraphy in primary school, and it is also a popular hobby among adults. Japanese Calligraphy has many purposes, using correct postures and hand grips. They need to keep a calm state of mind to write beautifully. They also need to control their brush nicely and steadily and practice repeatedly to satisfy their feelings. We will display their calligraphy writing on the wall as soon as they try with ink next time.
In Grades 5 and 6, we have been learning self-introduction in Term 1. On the 5th of March, we had a chance to connect to a Japanese primary school for our first online exchange lesson. It was Fukiage Primary School in Saitama Prefecture. We gave our presentation to introduce our school in English and some self-introduction in Japanese. Fukiage Primary School gave us their school introduction and some quizzes in English. It was a fantastic lesson to see that our students asked questions and students in Japan answered them. We now aim to be able to prepare to give our presentation in Japanese next time. It was a great opportunity for both students to meet online to communicate.
Have a wonderful long weekend!
