Co-curricular Sport Term 4 Information

The final round for Term 4 sport will take place this Saturday 23 November. We wish our teams all the best for their final games and thank all students for the wonderful commitment and sportsmanship shown this term, all teams were a credit to Loreto.

This year we had many old scholars and parents who strengthened our sports program by giving up their time to coach and share their expertise with our students, a huge thank you to these individuals. Thank you also to the many people who have generously supported the co-curricular program this year, such as the students, coaches, teachers, and venue supervisors. Thank you also to our Loreto parents for supporting their children in so many ways and giving them the opportunity to participate in these sporting events.

PE Week – Monday 11th to 15th November

Last week, our school celebrated Physical Education (PE) Week, and it was a whirlwind of activity and teamwork! The 2025 Sports and Vice Sports Captains and the PE department, organised a week full of games and challenges, and a much-anticipated staff vs. student volleyball showdown. It was a memorable week that highlighted the importance of staying active.

Dodgeball Extravaganza

On Tuesday the gym was alive with excitement as students took to the court for a House Dodgeball competition. With quick reflexes and strategic teamwork, players dodged, ducked, and aimed for victory. Each game was filled with energy and camaraderie, proving that dodgeball isn’t just about skill—it’s about having fun and working together! Mulhall came away triumphant on the day, defeating Barry in the final.

Games Galore

On Wednesday, a variety of games and activities kept everyone on their toes. From table tennis and basketball games, to squatting with the teacher, students had the chance to try something new or of interest to them. These activities reminded us all that fitness can be both enjoyable and rewarding.

Benchball Bonaza

On Thursday, the gym was packed with multiple teams competing to become the ultimate Benchball Champions. Benchball is an exciting indoor soccer competition that is action-packed and fast-paced. Teams strategize on the fly, weaving through multiple defenders with precision and executing thrilling plays that can instantly turn the game. Every hit to the bench or cone feels monumental and ensures the competition remains fierce until the final lunchtime bell.

The Highlight: Staff vs. Student Volleyball Game

The week ended with the highly anticipated staff vs. student volleyball game. Spectators packed the gym to cheer on their favourite team. Both sides brought their A-game, diving for saves, spiking with precision, and showcasing impressive teamwork. The staff team took home the win (no need for scores, of course!), but the students put up an epic fight and kept the game intense! The real victory was the sense of school spirit and mutual respect shared by all. The student dream team:

We’re already looking forward to next year’s PE Week. Until then, keep moving, stay active, and remember—every day is an opportunity to play, connect, and move!

Resilience!

Well done to our Year 3 Orange netball team who battled things out last Friday night against a much older opposition.

Coach Julia reports:

"I just wanted to let you know I was so impressed with my netball team tonight. We played a team that should be at least 2 grades higher. We lost something like 0-25 (or possibly worse).

But the girls kept trying, didn’t lose their energy and gave it their all despite not even getting the chance to have a shot at goal. This other team completely dominated the play and had much taller, faster and stronger players. But the girls persisted, tried to keep up and just kept chasing the ball. I was so incredibly proud of them".

I thought it was worth sharing this, as these girls are still learning, and I was so impressed with their resilience. They were excellent representatives for Loreto. The players were: Violet, Alyssiana, Belle, Isla, Eva, Rose, Hazel S and Claire B. I know we often celebrate wins, but I thought this deserved some recognition.

Well done to our Year 3 Orange team for showing such great spirit in the face of adversity and not getting discouraged!

Tennis

It was great to have tennis back at Loreto last Friday in our first home fixture for the term. After multiple weeks of away games we ha d a chance to play at the Patch Courts. The Loreto team – Eliza, Adelaide, Emerson and Bella - played out an exciting 3-3 draw with Pembroke with all singles and doubles games going the distance.

2024 Year 12 Visual and Creative Arts Exhibition

The opening of the 2024 Year 12 Visual and Creative Arts Exhibition on November 8 was a well-attended, intimate celebration of the hard work, dedication, and creativity of our young artists. I would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Mrs Jacky Hamilton, Leader of Visual Arts, for her inspiring opening speech, which highlighted the high quality and diverse range of artwork on display.

As we reflect on this creative journey, we are reminded of the powerful words of Will Gompertz:

"Ideas that are born out of ignorance, or which have been flippantly hatched, are invariably weak and most often useless. But those conceived on the basis of real knowledge, inspired by genuine passion, are much more likely to have plausibility and substance."

These words resonate deeply as we engage with the personal and thought-provoking artworks created by our Year 12 students.

This exhibition not only featured aesthetically pleasing creations but also represented a significant journey of learning, growth, and artistic expression. Our students embarked on a challenging exploration of diverse artistic styles and themes, which demanded rigorous research and cultural understanding. Their work bridges the gap between the personal and the universal, reflecting the notion that "the personal is political."

Alongside artist Marisha Matthews, Mrs Hamilton walked the audience through the exhibition, discussing each student’s work, inviting viewers to read the accompanying practitioner’s statements. Folios and Visual studies were on display in the year 12 Art Studio which allowed our guests to appreciate not only the visual resonance of each resolved artwork but also the depth of thought, the hours of practice, and the passion that have gone into the creation. Each artwork tells a story of personal growth and makes connections with the human experience and condition.

I would like to wish Lily, Nykita, Bree, Sophie, Hayley, Chris, Bridie, and Arabella the best in their future creative endeavours. Their journey is only just beginning, and we are excited to see where their art will take them.

Thank you for joining us in celebrating these remarkable achievements.
