Year 5/6 - Senior Unit

It’s been an exciting and productive fortnight for the senior students! Here’s a look at what they’ve been up to:

Numeracy:

The students are making fantastic progress in our unit on fractions, decimals, and percentages. They’ve been working on a variety of skills, including adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing fractions, as well as converting these results into decimals and percentages.

Literacy:

The students have been busy creating their own picture storybooks, with a focus on narratives about natural disasters or extreme weather events. This week, they’ve been working on their illustrations to bring their stories to life. It's been a wonderful combination of creativity and storytelling.

Inquiry:

The students have shown incredible dedication in their inquiry work, producing three distinct projects related to natural disasters and extreme climates. They’ve presented news reports, live tornado reenactments, raps, songs, and even created stunning dioramas. The effort they’ve put into these projects is truly commendable. Next, we’ll be shifting our focus to animal adaptations, and the students are excited to begin preparing for our upcoming visit to the zoo to learn more about this fascinating topic.

Fundraiser:

A huge thank you to the 5/6 students, as well as students from all year levels, for their contributions to our Celebration Day fundraiser. The students worked collaboratively to create games, activities, raffles, and competitions to raise funds for this special event. Not only did we raise a significant amount, but the students demonstrated excellent leadership, financial skills, and teamwork throughout the process. Well done, everyone!

Special Thanks:

A big thank you to Zoe Mullens for the fantastic equestrian presentation. The students had the opportunity to watch Zoe demonstrate her wild brumby training techniques and explain the process of homing a brumby in preparation for her upcoming participation in the Australian Equitana. We also appreciate Oliver for his help during the session!
