Leadership Report

It would be rude to discuss anything besides the 1/2 sleepover that took place last night! The 1/2s have been so excited this entire week and while some of the students (& teachers) woke up this morning very tired, they all had the very best time. A big thank you to Kylee for all of her organisation in making sure the event was a success and to all the teachers for giving up their time to make out 1/2s have a night to remember!

Our Library officially opened for students this week, I just want to say a big thank you to the moving team and to the incredible School Councillor Jess who has organised the new library into an incredibly inviting space. There is a lot more information to be found on this week’s library page in the newsletter.

What’s happening in the classrooms this week?

Foundation

I spoke to Sandi who told me about his favourite builders activities in maths where his group was learning about sharing by making eyes out of play dough. Another group were using think boards showing their understanding of numbers, and Huxley and Elki showed me their super cool shapes that they made on their geoboard.

1/2

Mossy, while smashing his lunch order which was a delicious pizza, shared his story with me. He told me about how he used similes in a story and how they make the reader more interested in his writing. His example was that his character was happy and to emphasise this he used a similie saying the bunny was ‘as happy as a bunny with infinite carrots’. Mossy read me his story about a volcano that was about to erupt in the jungle and how a monkey and toucan were to stop it from exploding. While excited about sharing his story, he was way more excited about the 1/2 sleepover!

3/4

Simon’s class bombarded me with their favourite things from the week!

  • Daphne passed her facts of fire test this week – Excellent Work!
  • I finished my Art Background in Visual Arts where I was using a stencil – Lynda
  • This week I have practicing my multiplication to 81 – Hazel
  • I have almost finished publishing my English narrative about the New Girl – Molly
  • I participated in the tryouts for interschool sports – Austin
  • I wrote 5 pages in my English Narrative in one session – Emlyn
  • I did four pages in my English Narrative and I have had to spend lots of time with Simon as I keep passing in my reading assessments! - Winnie
  • I tried out for two interschool sports teams for next year – Edison
  • I almost finished my narrative which is about an evil brother! – Anita

5/6

The Grade 6 graduation in starting to get into full motion. Both Karren and Lisa have some really fun and exciting events planned over the next few weeks which includes the famous Newlands Big Day Out. Sam told me that this week students have been practicing different solo and group acts for graduation which includes music, songs and dancing. They have also been creating their graduation hats. Mia told me the Grade 5s on the other hand have been working and focusing on achieving their academic potential. The school is covered in loads of advertising as our Grade 5s begin their campaigns to become the school leaders in 2025.

Next Week

Swimming Lessons

The magical timetable work of Raul has all of our students involved in swimming lessons over the next three weeks. We highly recommend that students names are written on all clothes. It will help teachers, as students leave the majority of clothing, goggles and towels in the change room!

Foundation Activity Evening

The 1/2s can’t have all the fun. Next Thursday is the Foundation activity evening.  Parents won’t need to pick up their children until 5:30 from their classrooms, as the teachers have lots of fun organised from 3:30pm onwards.

Yirrkala Primary School Visit

In partnership with Melbourne University, we will again host a group of educators from the Yirrkala school in Arnhem land. The students at Yirrkala learn in the Yolngu Matha language and English. Six teachers from Yirrkala will be working alongside our teachers for four days beginning on November 25th. If you see any of our visitors, please ensure you make them feel welcome.

If you would like more information about Yirrkala, please have a look at the Wellbeing page in last week’s newsletter.

20 school days left in 2024…

Have a great weekend,

Thanks, Luke
