5/6A's Final Hurrah!
Welcome to the final edition of the 2024 newsletter from Grade 5/6A! ✨
We hope you've enjoyed following along on our learning journey throughout the year. From exciting projects and creative discoveries to memorable events and valuable lessons, it's been a year full of growth and achievements. 💪🏽
3D Cityscapes 🌆
Architects and engineers move aside, Grade 5/6A has entered the building… AND designed it! We have spent some math lessons building incredible 3D cityscapes as the finale to our shapes unit! Using their knowledge of geometry, the students crafted creative, detailed cityscapes filled with parks, bridges and some skyscrapers even King Kong would love. 🦍
Each model showcased their imagination and problem-solving and teamwork skills, proving that the architects and engineers of the future are right here in our classroom!
🕺🏻Disco Fever🕺🏾
Disco fever hit hard at our annual School Disco and let me tell you, John Travolta had some competition in the halls of SJV! The theme was Popstars and Rockstars. 🤘🏼
It was an unforgettable night filled with amazing dance moves, snazzy costumes, lots of laughter, and a whole lot of fun. Students lit up the dance floor, busting some of their best moves under the dazzling disco lights. A fantastic evening for everyone involved!🧑🏾🎤👨🏻🎤👩🏿🎤
Remembrance Day
Remembrance Day is also known as Poppy Day and is held every year on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. We decided to make poppies in class for Remembrance Day to honor and remember the soldiers who served and sacrificed their lives for our freedom. The poppy is a symbol of remembrance and hope, inspired by the red flowers that grew on the battlefields after World War I.
By creating our own poppies, we learned about the importance of remembering the past and showing respect for those who fought for peace.
Research Task: Modern Day Prophets
After exploring the prophets of the Old Testament, Grade 5/6A turned their focus to modern-day prophets who inspire and guide us today. From advocates for social justice to environmental champions, we examined the qualities and messages of individuals who, like the prophets of old, call for change and lead with courage and compassion. These modern-day prophets remind us that the spirit of prophecy lives on, encouraging us to be voices for good in our world.
