What's On in Foundation

Nudel Kart

Have you seen our Nudel Kart?

In case you aren’t sure what it is… a Nüdel Kart is a deconstructable, mobile play cart that can be reconfigured in endless ways to encourage self-directed learning. It contains research-backed specially selected materials to stimulate children’s development.

We love the  Nudel Kart in Foundation!

There are endless possibilities to unleash our imagination and creation. Our latest brief was to create a habitat for a classroom toy. After creating a group and having a planning meeting, children worked together to combine ideas, use trial and error, experiment, explore and build. Not only do children build, they then do a galley walk where groups explain the ins and outs of their creation. Classmates also ask clarification questions to find out more.

We are always blown away with how all of the loose parts can be used in endless different ways! Blue fabric can turn a box into a waterfall, squares can become solar panels and wooden sticks are now steering poles and masts for a ship!

Check out our cool habitat creations!

Garden Adventures

Foundations students love their fortnightly session out in our school garden. Ashley always has fun things to do! We have done everything from making herb books, growing wheat seed heads, making seed balls, watching how compost is created and even making recycled paper!

The spring sunshine was a perfect backdrop for getting a little wet as we watered the garden. Students even snuck in a little maths learning when we looked at the markings on the watering can and measured how many litres we were filling up with water. The watering can could hold 9 litres which was way too heavy for us to carry! The chooks and worms also needed tending to!

Public Speaking Competition

A big congratulations to Sammy T for representing Foundation! His enthusiasm and excitement was a joy to see. We are so proud of his courage when speaking in front of so many new faces.  Well done, Sammy!

His speech ‘The Best Thing About Being Me’ was:

“Hi, I am Sammy. I am 6 years old. I go to Whitehorse Primary School.

Do you want to know the best things about being me? I love drawing, writing and playing with my brothers and my friends.

We love to play gang up tiggy. I am super fast and no one can catch me!

I like writing about my weekend. Last month I went to my first soccer game. It was unreal!

I love sports. Soccer is my absolute favourite. One day I want to be as good as Messi! Basketball is second and I also like footy. GO HAWTHORN!

Now you know the best things about being me!”
