Principal's Message

Dear Parents/Carers,

QUINN HUSSEY - SCHOOL SPORT VICTORIA HIGH JUMP CHAMPION

On Wednesday Quinn, attended the State Track and Field Championships in Albert Park to compete in High Jump.

After breaking his personal best jump of 155cm at the Regional Championships, Quinn booked himself a spot in the State Championships.

With a new personal best of 160cm Quinn became the champion taking out the gold medal.

What an amazing year for one of our highly respected Junior School Captains. We are all so incredibly proud of you Quinn and this amazing achievement.

GOVEMBER

GOvember is in full swing with some very good progress being made by all students and staff. This week our very own mascot GOgirl made an appareance to cheer everyone on.

We believe that we are well on the way to reaching our goal of 14,000km this month. We know the benefits of active and healthy lifestyles on our physical and mental health.

If we all commit we will reach our goal.

What are the mental and physical health benefits of exercise?

Exercise has many benefits, both curative and preventive, for physical and mental health. Any amount of exercise, even if it falls below the suggested amount, is likely to produce benefits.

Exercise benefits both mental health and physical health. Indeed, the National Institute on Aging Trusted Source say studies show that “taking it easy” is risky.

The Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)Trusted Source say that “Regular physical activity is one of the most important things you can do for your health,” and everyone can benefit.

This article looks at some specific benefits of regular exercise for mental and physical health.

1. Improves cardiovascular health

2. Helps with diabetes management

3. Reduces risk of some cancers

4. Improves mental health and mood

5. Improves bone health

6. Helps build and strengthen muscles

7. Increases chance of living longer

8. Helps maintain a moderate weight

9. May help with chronic pain

10. Helps prevents falls for older adults

11. Helps with sleep

12. Helps with osteoporosis

13. Improves brain function and reduces risk of dementia

REMEMBRANCE DAY

On Monday 11th November 2024 our school will be holding a Remembrance Day Service at 10.30am in the B.E.R.

This will be led by Mr Lewis and the JSC. This will be the only school gathering on Monday, there will be no seperate assembly. All are welcome to attend.

At the same time I will attend the community service at the RSL with two student leaders to lay a wreath on behalf of our school.

STUDENT LUNCHES

The classroom and office staff have mentioned to me that the number of students arriving at school without lunch/snack is increasing.

No student will ever go without, but the resources that we have in this area often run short. Students should have a piece of fruit, snack(s) and sandwich if they are bringing food from home.

We have lunch orders in place if parents choose that option. If you’re unsure how to order please contact the school.

If your child is suplied with food at school you will receive an email alert thorugh Compass.

This will mitigate against students misplacing or discarding lunches. Our teaching staff are vigilant in ensuring students are eating their food.

PARKING JAMIESON STREET WARRNAMBOOL

A message from Warrnambool City Council.

We have been receiving a number of complaints of illegal parking along Jamieson Street during school pick up/drop off times and we are needing to act.

We are concerned that children’s safety is being compromised as vision is being obscured for both drivers and School Crossing Supervisors.

Please understand that illegal parking will not be tolerated and infringements will be issued on the spot or mailed.

I thank you for your assistance regarding this matter.
