Principal's Report

By Carolyn Serpell

On Monday, members from SRC attended the Remembrance Day ceremony, to lay a floral tribute on behalf of our school community.  At school, students from 5/6 led a small ceremony and a minute silence. Congratulations to these students on their leadership, and to all students for the respect shown during these events.

This week we also welcomed student teacher, Emma Gaul, who is undertaking a three week placement in our school.  Emma will be working in the 1/2 classroom for the entirity of her placement, alongside Ellen, Steph and Dave.

Thank you to those families who made time to meet with teachers this week for parent teacher meetings.  If you have not already met with your child's teacher this term, and were not able to make a time, please contact the office or your child's teacher, to make a time asap.

At Monday's assembly, students who had participated in the annual Maths Competition were presented with their certificates. Congratulations to all these students on their participation and achievement.  A special mention to Niels and Archie who both received a distinction, and also to Poppy and Hugh, who received a credit.

Congratulations also to Eli, who competed in the discus competition at last week's State Finals for Athletics.  This was a fantastic achievement and it was great to hear about his experience.

On Tuesday, we held our first visit with students from the kinder, as part of the Prep transition program.  During the visit, students spent time becoming familiar with the school and classroom environment.

Today, students in Prep-2 participated in the annual Junior Sports, at Tawonga.  Many thanks to all staff involved. During the day, students enjoyed participating in a range of activities including an obstacle course, frisbee golf and other running, jumping and skipping events.

Tomorrow, it is our school's opportunity to raise funds through the Mountain Monk Community Raffle.  We would really appreciate the support of our school community in this event, as all funds raised go towards the purchase of teaching and learning equipment such as sports equipment, musical instruments and mentor texts for teachers to use in the classroom.  We would be really grateful if you are able to come along and help sell tickets, and possibly buy 1 or 2 for yourself.  Ticket sales commence around 5.30pm and finish at 7pm, when the raffle is drawn.

Weather permitting, next Friday our school will commence swimming lessons.  Information has been sent out on Compass and families are asked to please provide consent online.  During this program, students are required to wear full school uniform as normal.  Students will change at school before and after swimming. All students will require a rashie, swim shorts/bathers, goggles, sunscreen, thongs, towel, and a change of underwear.  Current swim dates are: Fri 22/11, Mon 25/11, Wed 27/11, Mon 2/12, Wed 4/12 and Fri 6/12.
