Building Works: Stages 1-6
Stages 3-6 of the building works are now complete. This includes the redevelopment of general learning spaces, staff work areas & corridors in the Main Building, for years 8, 9 & 10. Learning spaces have been refurbished to enhance flexibility, improve support for students and spread of natural light, improved aesthetics & thermal comfort and a stronger connection to nature. Outdoor covered gathering spaces were added to provide for outdoor learning connection and passive recreation, whilst removing lockers from internal corridors to enable break-out learning opportunities.
Responsible and sensitive management of financial considerations including thorough preparation and financial planning has served the College well and we are in a sound position to continue to build with confidence. The support of the Building Fund component of the fee structure is critical to the College’s continued development and your continued support in this area is needed and appreciated.
Mission Action Day
Led by our Year 12s, Mission Action Day was a wonderful success from both community building and fund-raising perspective. With remaining donations coming in this week and some belated donations the total is in excess of $50,000. Thank you once again for your support of the College but in this case the broader mission of the Oblates with their work in China and Southeast Asia. The behaviour and enthusiasm of the students in Year 12 as well as other year levels was outstanding.
ACC Swimming
At the end of Term 1, our swimming team competed in the ACC Swimming Championship at the Melbourne Aquatic Centre. Our squad put in many hours in preparing for the competition. We had many outstanding individual results which led to us being very competitive in Division 1. We would like to acknowledge all students, particularly Year 12 students, for years of dedication to the sport and thank them for their leadership.
ANZAC Day
It is customary at the College to conduct an ANZAC Day service that enables students and staff to reflect on the sacrifices and hardships of so many who served during times of conflict and unrest, particularly those who served during the First World War and at Gallipoli. The Last Post, The Minute of Silence, Reverie, and the Ode form a ritual that is moving and prayerful.
All the best,
Dr Paul Shannon
