Principal's Bulletin

A message from the school Principals.

Hello NPS families,

In starting this week's Bulletin a little differently,  I am beginning with a few "reminders" based on several things we are seeing and noticing amongst our students at the moment. As always, your feedback is MORE than welcomed so please use the feedback portal if you have any queries following on from below...

  1. Student Uniforms
    1. It has been more evident recently than in quite some time that our students are coming to school out of uniform and wearing clothing that does not align to our 'Student Dress Code Policy'. I would like to remind our families that we have the aforementioned policy in place for a number of reasons (which are highlighted in the policy), and therefore expect all students and families to abide by this. If students need to be out of uniform then parents/caregivers are to write a note in the student diary and or contact their child's teacher directly.
  2. Yard Rubbish
    1. There has been an increasing amount of rubbish in the yard recently causing our beautiful school grounds to look, not so beautiful. Students have 10 minutes of dedicated eating time for lunch and recess and although they are discouraged from taking wrappers and foods with wrappers outside - it happens. Unfortunately from here, those wrappers are not finding their way into the bin. From Monday, students in their School Houses will have a nominated day for a 5-minute yard clean at the end of lunch.
  3. Lollies / Junk Food
    1. As much as I personally love a bit of chocolate and or the odd lolly, the amount of these items we are seeing students eat at break times, as well as being eaten in class, is a little disturbing. Like most things, everything is fine in moderation however what some students are bringing to school and are being seen to be eating every day is not setting the students up for success and or to have successful days that are calm and orderly. A reminder that we provide daily free fruit to our students therefore if they need additional food/fruit to eat, we have it for them to access.
  4. Toys / Personal Items
    1. We are seeing a lot of toys and personal items entering the school which is not ideal and in fact, something we heavily discourage. Soft toys, toy cars,  toys in general, collector cards, perfumes, and more are being brought to school and in a lot of cases, cause disagreements and arguments between students. Any toys seen by staff will be asked to be placed in a child's bag and if seen again held on to by staff for parents to collect.
  5. Student Attendance
    1. If students are absent for any reason, we require same-day contact as to why they are away - this is to ensure both DET and legal responsibilities are complied with.
    2. Another gentle reminder that our students need to be at school, on time,  every day. Yes, there will of course be times when things happen that may mean a student will not attend school, however tmore they are here the better it is for them and their academic, social, and emotional growth and development.

OK. Rant/s over!

I apologise for the late notice however we will be having a Pupil Free Day on Friday 7th June. This will mean an extra long weekend for our families with Monday 10th June being the King's Birthday Holiday. We have been asked previously to inform families as early as possible and with this decision only having been finalised this morning, we are informing you now.

Finally, it was TREMENDOUS to see SO many families and in particular Mums and Special Person at our Mother's Day Afternoon Tea last Friday! This was a wonderful turnout and to see the positive, happy, and smiling faces of our students share an afternoon tea with their mum or special person was wonderful!  Thank you to everyone who attended.

Thank you and have a great weekend!

REPOST:

Finally, as a school over the years, we have offered a wide variety of extra curricular activities and we are keen to have some feedback from our families about what is currently offered, and what else if anything you'd like to see. There is a Google Form linked here Extra Curricular Programs / Offerings. If you have the time, please complete this for us.
