If anyone has newspapers, coat hangers or boxes lying around that you no longer need, could we please have them in the Science room, or any other objects that could be repurposed into a space project. We would appreciate any donations at all! Thank you!
The Year 5/6 students are deep into their “what if?” projects now. Many of the groups have finished a lot of the research and are beginning to create a number of different things including, dioramas, posters, PowerPoints and Kahootz quizzes. I have spent the last few lessons meeting with each group/individual and making sure they are on the right track. I am so pleased with how most groups are progressing and the information they have found out. Most of them are able to tell me some cool facts, without reading off their notes!
We have also spent some time looking at how Earth is tilted and how the tilt and the revolution around the sun are important to creating our seasons. We have discussed what would happen if Earth didn’t have a tilt and have discovered that the tilt is actually VERY slowly getting less and less!
We have been watching a “what if” video, by Dr. Binocs, at the start of each lesson to help with how to present the information the students find and how they can look for information in different ways. Here are two of the videos we have watched so far.

For the last for weeks of this term, the Year 3/4 students have been working on their Portfolio task, part of this task was for them to create a 2D paper model of the Earth rotating on its Axis, the moon revolving around Earth and Earth revolving around the sun.
The students have found the research side of things for their “What if?” projects a little challenging, so together we are coming up with some great kid friendly websites that they can use to help them find out more information and are learning research skills along the way. Such as, changing the wording in a Google search, finding appropriate websites, making notes in our own words, etc. Some groups are doing a really good job of this.
I have also showed the 3/4 students some Dr. Binocs, What if, videos as well, to help with their research. I have included the link to one below.
