House Captain Wrap

So far this term we have competed in the 3/4 hoop time event and district cross country. In the 3/4 hoop time event two of our USPS teams were lucky enough to make it to the grand final to play off against each other.

On Wednesday 29th May we had four teams from USPS compete in the Volleyball Cup versing 8 other teams from other schools. By the end of the tournament, we were very lucky to have two teams who won the whole event. Congratulations and good luck to all teams and individuals competing in future events.

Curriculum Update

Foundation:

Over the past few weeks, the Foundation students have continued to develop and grow their confidence with their overarm throw technique (Strongman/girl). The students continued to refine their technique through stationed activities testing both their accuracy and throwing power. Once they developed a level of competency with moved to applying these skills into a more game simulated exercises. Some of the games that the students participated in were Bombs Away, Knock them Down and Protect the Base. Not only did these games ask the students to apply their overarm throw technique but it also provided them with the opportunity to cooperate positively in a team environment.

Year One/Two:

Over the past few weeks, the Level 1 and 2 students have continued to develop and grow their confidence with their overarm throw technique (Strongman/girl). The students continued to refine their technique through stationed activities testing both their accuracy and throwing power. Once they developed a level of competency with moved to applying these skills into a more game simulated exercises. Some of the games that the students participated in were Bombs Away, Protect the Castle, Knock them Down and Protect the Base. Not only did these games ask the students to apply their overarm throw technique but it also provided them with the opportunity to cooperate positively in a team environment. In doing so, students were able to recognise the importance of working together to achieve a collective goal.

Year Three/Four:

Over the last few weeks, the Level 34 students have completed a Long Jump and Discus lesson and Basketball Clinic with Sherbrooke Suns.

The Long Jump and Discus lessons saw the students utilise their Fundamental Movement Skills. These skills involved running, jumping and throwing. It was great to see the students try beat their previous attempts.

It was great to see the students work together in the basketball clinic.

The basketball clinic saw the students practise some of the basic skills involved in the game before moving on to some mini team games/competitions where these skills were applied.

Year Five/Six:

Over the last few weeks, the Level 56 students have completed a Long Jump lesson, a Basketball Clinic with Sherbrooke Suns and commenced their elective units.

It was great to see the students work together in both the basketball clinic and electives.

The basketball clinic saw the students practise some of the basic skills involved in the game before moving on to some mini team games/competitions where these skills were applied.

The purpose of the electives was to give the students some more choice and voice in relation to their learning. This also provided them with the opportunity to work with students from other classes.

House Colour Cross-Country:

On Friday 10th May we held our House Colour Cross Country event. It was wonderful to see the students get in the spirit and wear their house colours. It was also fabulous to see the team spirit and positive encouragement on display. The students should all be proud of their efforts on the day. Whether you completed the course via running, jogging, walking, we are still very proud of you all.  Congratulations to Coolibah who took out the House Colour Cross-Country Championship for 2024

We now have forty-nine students who will represent our school at the District Carnival on Friday 24th May at Crystalbrook Park. Good Luck

Level 34 Hooptime:

On Monday 13th May select Level 34 students competed in a District Hooptime Carnival at State Basketball Centre. First, I would like to thank the parents who volunteered their time to coach a team on the day. Without your support, these events are not possible. To all of the students, you were wonderful in the way you conducted yourselves in both a respectful and responsible manner. We were fortunate to have both of our Future Stars team's playoff in the grand final. The match was played in great spirit and the mateship shown after the game was terrific. Congratulations to the Upwey South Sonics who will now progress to the region event (TBC).

District Cross Country

On Friday 24th May, select Level 3-6 students represented our school as the District Cross Country Event. It was fantastic to witness all the students give their best in their respective races. The team spirit on display was amazing. We had students push each other along in the races and others run together to support one another.

We now have thirteen students who progress to the Division event on Tuesday 4th June at Yarra Valley Racecourse. We wish these students the best of luck. Go USPS

Volleyball Cup

On Wednesday 29th May, thirty-one of our 56 students represented our school at the Upwey High Volleyball Cup. The day was constructed in a way which allowed the students time to practise the fundamental skills involved in volleyball (Serving, Digging, Setting, Spiking & Teamwork). Once these sessions concluded the students participated in a round robin tournament against the other schools. The skill application in each game was fantastic to watch. Congratulations to the two teams which made it through to the grand final and won their respective matches.
