Classroom Helper Training Session

From Adrienne, P-2 Assistant Principal

North Melbourne Primary School is committed to building strong relationships between school and home. An integral part of our classroom program is parental assistance. Classroom teachers value the support of parents to enable them to provide high-quality teaching and learning programs.

NMPS is offering a Classroom Helpers Training morning. This 45-minute session focuses on how you can support your child’s learning while volunteering in the classroom and for other school events. It will give an insight into the types of activities that are part of our literacy and numeracy program, the procedures involved in assisting, as well as relevant questions and prompts to support students and encourage them to extend their skills and strategies.

This includes (but is not limited to):

  • Classroom Helpers
  •  Camps
  • Excursions
  •  Cooking
  • Swimming

To maintain the safety and confidentiality of our students, this session will also outline key details from our school’s Child Safe & Wellbeing Policy and our Volunteer Policy (including the process of gaining a Work with Children Check.)

All volunteers at NMPS require a Working with Children Check card, and we encourage you to apply in advance. This is free for volunteers You can find more information here.

Whilst attending this information session is not compulsory, it is definitely worthwhile for those who plan to help in classrooms and would like information about basic skills and strategies to effectively help small groups and individual children at school. While the knowledge and skills gained are valuable for supporting classroom teacher’s they also provide insights into helping your own children at home.
