Upgrades to Errol Street Campus

From Tom D, 3- 6 Assistant Principal

New and renovated toilets

Our students are relieved that the Errol Street toilet renovations are now complete!

The two sets of toilets in the east and west wings of the Old Building have been fully renovated, thanks to a collective community effort in fundraising, design, consultation and construction.

The ol, dated and dysfunctional toilets have been refurbished beautifully to improve students’ usability. Enhancements include:

  • The floorplan is clean and open, yet divides areas for privacy. The flexible floorplan can cater for possible further upgrades in the future.
  • Inserted timber bulkhead acts as a design connection to all areas of the toilets. Wedge shapes, similar to the tip of Australia, invite students into the main area of toilets naturally from the passage.
  • Use of sustainable yet durable materials, including: carbon-neutral Forbo linoelums and acoustic panels made from 100% recycled pet bottles. Durable compact laminate has been introduced for partition panels.
  • Acoustic panels have been installed throughout to provide a quiet and calm environment for the children.

 Student design input

Students were given input into design and colour choices. Upon opening, some of the excited comments from students included: “The stinky urinals have gone!” and “They look like fancy restaurant toilets!”

Thanks to Noriko, Paul, Intermain and the Buildings & Grounds Committee for bringing this project to fruition.

Galileo Program facility upgrades

In other Errol Street Campus upgrades, installation of the new Year 9 toilet block was completed over the summer, providing a clean, modern and separate facility for students from the University High Galileo Program during their two half-days and two full days at NMPS each week.

As part of this installation, our Southside yard has also received some much-needed landscaping improvements, with new retaining walls, garden beds and pathways included. Over the coming weeks, we will also benefit from new planting in this area, along with the installation of new drinking taps.
