Important First Aid & Medication Changes

First Aid & Medication – updates

The school requires parents to provide up-to-date and accurate medical information relating to students, including information about conditions such as anaphylaxis, asthma and diabetes. Parents are requested to provide this information annually, prior to camps and excursions and if the child’s medical condition changes since the information was provided.

There are some changes to administering medication to students at school. The policies and procedures can be found on our school website if you require further information.

Please take note of the main points below taken from the policies and procedures and if your child does require medication at school please come and see Emma or Julie.

Please note: The school can no longer store or administer paracetamol. If your child requires paracetamol, a short-term medication form can be filled out, and parents will need to provide the medication.

  1. Authorisation of medication to students
    1. For medication to be administered to a student in the school environment, including excursions, camps and overseas travel, parents/guardians/carers must request in writing that medication be administered to their child.
    2. Parents / guardians / carers are responsible for providing a Medication Authority Form (MAF) to the school via email to office@scelwood.catholic.edu.au or as a hard copy and provided to Admin staff, containing the medication/s to be administered, and the medication requirements (dosage, method of administration, frequency, times of day, storage) at the time of enrolment or when notified of the required administration of medication in the school environment.
    3. Medication must not be administered to a child being educated and cared for unless the MAF is authorised by an Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) registered medical / health practitioner except in exceptional circumstances.
  2.
  3. Administration of medication to students at school
    1. Parents / guardians / carers are required to provide the school with the medication in its original packaging, within the expiry, with the name of the student (for prescription medication) and outlines instructions for administration/application of the medication, as well as relevant storage instructions, particularly regarding temperature.
  4. Taken from Administration of Medication Procedures for School
  5.
  6. Anaphylaxis
  7. Parents of a child who has anaphylaxis will be required to have a meeting in term 1 with the Learning Diversity Leader. This meeting will take place during the scheduled P/T interviews. During this meeting we will discuss any updates to the ASICA plan and fill out an Individual Anaphylaxis Management Plan (IAMP) together.
  8.
  9. We have a number of students with allergic reactions who require an autoinjector pen (epipen). It is important to remember for the health and safety of these students and all of the people in our care that nuts and food containing nuts such as Nutella, Peanut Butter are not brought to school.

Sibling enrolments for 2025

I would ask that parents who have a child commencing Prep in 2025 to please enrol their child by the end of February so we can determine how many places will be available to new families for 2025. Enrolment forms can completed online via enrolments on our website.
