Principal Message – Week  1 Term 1

Welcome back to what promises to be an exciting and fulfilling year for our school community! I trust that your summer break provided you with quality time for rejuvenation and connection with your families.

Our focus for this year is on connection and community building. We understand that successful learning environments are about fostering a sense of belonging, safety, and shared purpose. The first few weeks of school are crucial for setting the foundation of routines, expectations, and most importantly, relationships.

We appreciate the dedication of our staff, who have invested significant energy into ensuring a calm and settled start for our children. The importance of establishing a safe and inclusive learning environment, where each child feels academically, physically, culturally, socially, and emotionally secure, cannot be overstated.

Our school theme for the year, 'DREAM - it always seems impossible until it’s done,' reflects our commitment to nurturing resilience, empathy, positive relationships, mindfulness, and gratitude. These skills are not only vital for personal development but also serve as the cornerstone for effective learning.

As we begin this new school year, I want to emphasize the importance of our collective role in fostering a learning environment that goes beyond a transactional experience. At St. Columba’s, we believe that schools are not just places of education but spaces where parental engagement is indispensable for a child's success. It's about creating a partnership that extends beyond textbooks and classrooms, making the journey of learning a shared and enriching experience.

To kickstart the year, we have planned a Parent Information Night on 7th February. This event is carefully curated to provide you with the information necessary to actively support your child's journey throughout the year. We strongly advise all parents to attend. Our goal is to foster a shared understanding of what your child will be learning and experiencing, providing a unified and clear perspective on school expectations. Your attendance is not only valued but integral to our joint efforts in creating a supportive and cohesive educational environment for every child.

We believe that learning flourishes in collaborative environments, and the involvement of parents is key to creating this. As we begin this new year, we invite you to share in this journey with us, contributing to making St. Columba’s a place of possibility.

Let's make 2024 a year of strong connections, community spirit, and collective growth. Together, we can ensure our school is a vibrant and nurturing space for every child.

Looking forward to seeing you at the Parent Information Night!
