Our VET IT students have officially wrapped up their second round of work placements, returning to the classroom with more than just stories, they’ve brought back hands-on industry experience. From troubleshooting hardware to coding for aviation, our students stepped out of the classroom and into the front lines of the tech world.

Behind the Scenes of IT Support

At CEDWWAenea gained a direct look at the infrastructure that keeps a large organization running.

"During my work placement, I was able to shadow someone working on IT support tickets and deprovision broken Chromebooks," Aenea shared. "I was also able to research the use of GenAI in the classroom."

The experience provided a practical look at the Google Admin console and the logistics of technical support. For Aenea, the takeaway was clear: "This was a good experience for those who are looking at a pure IT pathway, particularly those interested in IT support."

Coding and Aviation

Miguel took his skills to Silvertone Electronics UAV, where he blended his passion for tech with aviation.

"I got to practically apply learnt skills and knowledge doing tasks that I enjoy, such as coding and assembling circuit board connections," Miguel noted.

Under professional mentorship, he utilised flight simulators to deepen his understanding of aviation principles. Reflecting on the week, Miguel highly recommends the path: "Overall, I would highly recommend a VET course and work placement as it's a great way to get experience with real-world jobs that you may be interested in."

Design and Development

Creative tech was the focus for Faustina during her time at Emutel. She spent the week diving into the company’s digital presence and branding.

"A few interesting things I did was redesign and code my own version of the company's homepage, designed promotional items, and familiarised myself with the company and what they do within the industry."

Faustina walked away with valuable insight into how graphic design and coding function within a corporate environment. Her final verdict? "This experience was very beneficial. 10/10 would do it again if given the chance, especially with Emutel."

A Heartfelt Thank You

These invaluable learning opportunities would not be possible without the generosity and guidance of our local industry partners.

We would like to extend a sincere thank you to the teams at CEDWWSilvertone Electronics UAV, and Emutel. By opening your doors and providing mentorship, you are helping to shape the next generation of IT professionals. Your willingness to share your expertise, tools, and time gives our students a head start that simply cannot be replicated in a classroom alone.
