Year 7

Swimming Sports
For Year 7, this year’s Swimming Carnival at Koo Wee Rup was an exciting and memorable experience. After travelling by bus, the energy was high as the day began with the much-anticipated Year 12 parade. The creative costumes and themed outfits set a fun and lively tone for the carnival and were a highlight for many of us.
Throughout the day, the atmosphere was filled with vibrant house colours as students proudly supported their teams. Every single Year 7 gave it a go, and they all showed determination and great sportsmanship in the pool. Year 7 students enthusiastically cheered on their housemates, creating an encouraging and positive atmosphere. The staff and students event also brought plenty of excitement and laughter, adding to the strong sense of community.
Student's needs were fully accommodated throughout the day, with shaded areas and VM students and a food truck providing plenty of refreshments. Strict staff supervision ensured that everyone remained safe, giving students and parents alike peace of mind while still allowing the day to be fun and lively.
Overall, the Swimming Carnival was a fantastic opportunity for Year 7 to bond as a year level, to demonstrate house pride and to enjoy a day full of teamwork, encouragement and fun.
Challenge Tuesdays: Who will come out on top?
Challenge Tuesdays are up and running, and boy did they start with a bang! Round 1 we saw the airborne challenge, with homegroups competing against one another in a face-off style, each trying to keep the balloon up for as long as they could using only their feet. In the end it was 7G and 7F who were victorious on the day, starting on top of the table.
These will be running at lunch time every single Tuesday and are an opportunity to earn points for your homegroup! The winner at the end of the term will earn a free lunch for the entire class. But you have to be in it to win it, so, make sure you’re there each Tuesday and giving it your best!
Homegroup | Points |
7G | 3 |
7F | 3 |
7D | 1 |
7C | 1 |

Homegroup captains
This year we want to make student voice and leadership at the core of everything we do to ensure that all our Year 7 students have the best start to their high school journey. To make this as achievable as possible, we were tasked with selecting homegroup captains for each of our nine homegroups. Working in conjunction with the Humanities Domain, Year 7 students completed a democracy unit, concluding with teams designing and delivering an election campaign before participating in an election ballot.
For more information on this, we spoke to Sienna, our Homegroup Captain for 7I. Here is what Sienna said:
“We got chosen as class captain by making a speech in front of the class, that basically just said, why we would be a good class captain and what we would do. We created a Canva poster that said a few things about you. Mine had a get to know me section with my favourite things like colour, animal and more. In my class we had to make a slogan like in actual elections. We also formed groups with the candidate, the person making the poster and the person writing the speech.”
We were so impressed with the work output and would like to congratulate our Year 7 Homegroup Captains:
| 7A | Scarlett C | 7F | Demi P |
| 7B | Micah N | 7G | Declyn H |
| 7C | Lily K | 7H | Abbey G |
| 7D | Harrison A | 7I | Sienna H |
| 7E | Koby C |
Year Level Captains
Continuing with our theme of student leadership, we also had the privilege of appointing our Year 7 Captains for 2026 recently. Students went through a rigorous application and interview process for this role, and we were blown away by the capacity and potential of our Year 7 students to be amazing leaders. In the end, we were tasked with the difficult decision of choosing only two leaders, and after much deliberation we have selected Akon Deng (7F) and Will Owen (7E) as our Year 7 Captains for 2026. Both Will and Akon were acknowledged and received their badges at our whole-school assembly on Friday, already making the Year 7 cohort proud! Once again, congratulations to both Akon and Will, and thank you to every single student who applied and interviewed for this role.
‘Meet the captains’ - year level edition
Throughout the year, we want to provide the opportunity for our captains to give a bit of insight into who they are, and what better way to start than with our Year Level Captains?
We are proud to introduce Akon and Will, our Year 7 Captains for 2026. Both Will and Akon have already made a great start to high school, known by their classmates and teachers alike for being friendly, organised and always willing to lend a helping hand.
When speaking to Akon about her high school experience so far, she was extremely positive. Akon loves to move, so it is no surprise that she enjoys Physical Education. Akon also enjoys the creativity and writing in English, and the problem solving in Maths. Outside of school, Akon plays basketball and has done so since a young age.
Akon is excited about her role for this year. When asked what about the role itself appeals to her, she responded that she was looking forward to being someone who could help her peers if ever they needed it, be reliable and to be a role model.
Will enjoys his Science, in particular the scientific experiments that he gets to do, most recently working with the Bunsen burner. Will also enjoys English as he loves reading and working on his writing skills. Outside of school, Will plays basketball and footy and enjoys his fishing.
Will is extremely excited his role for this year, particularly the prospects of working with other leaders who may have different ideas to his own and helping others in need.
We look forward to seeing both Akon and Will grow in their roles this year and do the Year 7 team proud!
