Student Leaders assembly
Last Friday, Berwick College proudly hosted our annual Whole School Leadership Assembly, a significant occasion where we formally recognised and celebrated the student leaders who will guide our community throughout the year. The assembly was entirely student-run and student-driven, reflecting the confidence, organisation and professionalism of our young leaders. From scripting and coordination to public speaking and stage management, students led every aspect of the event with pride and maturity. It was a powerful demonstration of what authentic student voice and agency looks like in action.
During the ceremony, each leader was presented with their official leadership badge in front of peers and staff, a symbol not just of position, but of responsibility, service and commitment to the College community.
We were also honoured to welcome back three distinguished Berwick College alumni who shared their journeys beyond school:

Steve – Now a respected leader in IT systems within the healthcare sector, Steve spoke about innovation, adaptability and the importance of problem-solving in high-stakes environments. His insights highlighted how leadership skills developed at school translate directly into complex professional settings.

Chris May OAM – Chris has been recognised with the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for his significant service and contribution to the community. His message centred on servant leadership, resilience and giving back. Chris’ story was a powerful reminder that leadership is ultimately about impact and contribution.

Lachie – Owner of 3806 Brewing here in Berwick and recipient of Young Entrepreneur of the Year last year, Lachie shared his journey of building a business from passion to reality. He spoke candidly about risk-taking, persistence and backing yourself lessons we hope resonated strongly with students.
We thank Steve, Chris and Lachie equally for returning to the College to inspire the next generation. Their willingness to give back reinforces the strong culture of connection that exists within the Berwick College community.
To all students in leadership roles — thank you
The way you presented yourselves at the assembly confirmed that the College is clearly in safe hands.

We are also proud to announce that year 9 students Tasha Premachandra, Alysha Oravec, Alexander Tymensen and Stephanie Ryan have been offered places in the prestigious School for Student Leadership (SSL) program.
The SSL is a Victorian Department of Education initiative that brings together Year 9 students from across the state for a term-long residential leadership experience. The program focuses on:
Selection this year was highly competitive, with applications reviewed through written submissions, interviews, teacher references and supporting documentation. Being offered a place is a significant achievement, and we congratulate Tasha, Alysha, Alexander and Stephanie on earning this opportunity.
The SSL experience is often transformative. Students return with strengthened independence, broadened perspective and renewed confidence to lead within their school community.
Student Leadership, Voice and Agency continues to evolve at Berwick College. Across Houses, academies and year levels, our leaders are actively shaping school through service, initiative and collaboration.
I am incredibly excited to work alongside our leadership team to deliver a range of new programs, clubs and student-led opportunities across the College and also have a team that can be a voice for students in the college.

On behalf of the student leadership team.
