Year 11 Outdoor Education Camp – Sandy Point Adventure
Our Year 11 Outdoor Education students recently returned from an incredible three-day camp at Sandy Point, packed with challenge, teamwork and plenty of memorable moments.
A major highlight of the camp was our surf lessons with Bones, the surfing instructor. It was fantastic to see so many students, who had never surfed before, showing real courage and persistence and even better, to watch them successfully stand up on their boards for the first time. Surfing provided a powerful opportunity for students to step outside their comfort zones while developing resilience, balance, coordination and confidence.
As part of our Outdoor Education program, students also learned and practised a variety of rescue techniques. These included board rescues, group rescue scenarios and responding to simulated emergency situations. These practical experiences directly connect to the content students are currently learning in class, including risk assessment, water safety, leadership, minimal impact practices and responding effectively in outdoor environments. Applying theory in a real-world coastal setting gave students authentic, hands-on learning that strengthened their understanding of safety and environmental awareness.
We headed down to the beach to watch the stunning sunsets a valuable opportunity for reflection and connection with the natural environment, which is a key component of Outdoor Education. Students also learned a group dance, bringing plenty of energy and laughter while reinforcing teamwork, participation and group cohesion.
Our four-square tournament was another highlight, with everyone getting involved. The competition was friendly but spirited, and it was terrific to see students demonstrating encouragement, inclusion and positive sportsmanship throughout.
Overall, the camp was a fantastic example of experiential learning in action building independence, resilience, collaboration skills and personal growth in an authentic outdoor setting.
Subject Shout Out – Year 7 Physical Education
A big shout out to our Year 7 PE students! This term, students have been exploring student voice through the creation of minor games. They have been designing, modifying and refining their own games to ensure they are inclusive, engaging and promote specific skill development.
It has been impressive to see students thinking critically about rules, safety, fairness and participation. By giving students ownership over their learning, we are strengthening their understanding of movement concepts while also developing communication and teamwork skills. Well done, Year 7!
Important Reminder – Year 11 & 12 SACs
A reminder that our Year 11 and 12 students have their first SACs coming up or have had their first SAC over the last few weeks. It is extremely important that students continue with consistent study and revision. Reviewing key concepts, completing practice questions and seeking clarification from teachers will be essential for success.
Establishing strong study habits early in the year sets the foundation for positive outcomes throughout VCE. We encourage all senior students to stay organised, manage their time effectively and reach out for support if needed.
We are incredibly proud of the effort, enthusiasm and growth we continue to see across all year levels in Health and Physical Education. It has been a fantastic start to the year, and we look forward to more exciting learning experiences ahead.
