“ Act Justly, Love Tenderly and Walk Humbly with our God.”

Dear parents and carers,

In further developing our Living Well Learning Well Framework, Mr Frend is leading some work in developing student voice. Through regular surveys and meetings the students have the opportunity to speak about their needs at school. They are also able to discuss what is working well and how do we know.

The conversation started with survey results from the end of 2025 and since then lists have been developed of what is achievable, what can the students do and what can the staff do. A good example is the plan to have the inside of the Hall toilets painted due to the dark nature of the inside. This came up frequently and so we have a painter booked for the next holidays.

Currently the students are focussing on using respectful language. It has been the students who have expressed concerns about some peers using disrespectful language to each other and to adults. Owning this will have a positive impact and help to develop the concept of being a big St Xavier’s team.

For me, the way children speak to each other, is an absolute priority. There will always be clashes during games etc but to put someone down is degrading. This is something I won’t accept at St Xavier’s and it is difficult to monitor when we have some students who use such language at home. In saying this, I am delighted each morning by the wonderful smiles and interactions with students as they arrive at school.

I will continue to update you with the work Mr Frend is doing. I hope you are enjoying receiving the “Good News” emails teachers are sending out. It’s early days so don’t worry if you have not received one yet!

Kind regards,

Jen
