Home Economics

The Home Economics Department has enjoyed a smooth and productive start to 2026! We are delighted to welcome our new team members: Home Economics teachers Emma Payne and Marina Havenstein, as well as our new Home Economics Assistant, Milena Fratini. We wish them every success as they settle into their roles.
Our Certificate II in Hospitality students have begun the year with great enthusiasm.
- Year 11 students have been developing strong foundational skills in kitchen hygiene, safety, and knife handling as well has the introduction to cooking in the commercial kitchen.
- Year 12 students have been working through the non‑alcoholic beverages unit, creating frappes, milkshakes, teas, and mocktails. A key assessment required students to prepare six beverages within 20 minutes at industry standard—an impressive challenge they have taken on with confidence.
We are also excited that the Green Apple Café has officially reopened for the year, much to the delight of staff and our Year 12 students.
In Food Science and Technology,
- Year 12 students have been exploring nutrition and the impact food has on the human body.
Year 11 students are developing the essential skills needed to work safely and effectively in the kitchen, including precision cutting and food preparation techniques.
Our Year 10 World of Food students have embarked on their international culinary journey by investigating the food customs and cultures of several Asian countries. They have already prepared delicious Chinese dishes such as spring rolls and chicken bao buns.
In Textiles, the Year 8 Fabulous Fabrics students have been learning to safely use the sewing machines and are creating denim bookmarks to showcase their new skills.
In the kitchen, Year 8 Fabulous Foods and Year 9 Food for the Future students have been building safe, hygienic, collaborative, and time‑efficient kitchen practices. So far, they have enjoyed making pizza, chicken wraps, French toast, sausage rolls, and Milo biscuits.
The Home Economics Department hopes all students have had a positive start to the year. We wish you continued success and enjoyment in your studies. A friendly reminder to please bring a suitable container to all cooking lessons to support our sustainability initiatives.
