Health & Physical Education

Dear Parents and Guardians

As we begin the year, the Health and Physical Education team would like to remind families of the expectations for student participation in Physical Education lessons. Ensuring students arrive prepared supports safety, comfort, and full engagement in all learning activities.

PE Uniform Requirements

In line with the Applecross Senior High School Uniform Policy, students are required to wear the correct Physical Education uniform on all timetabled PE days. The policy outlines the following approved items:

  • PE Polo Shirt – white or green
  • PE Shorts – green
  • Track Pants – black or green, elastic waist with piping inset
  • Tennis uniform items (for tennis students only):
    • Tennis shorts (red)
    • Tennis skort (red)
    • Tennis polo (red or white)

The policy also states that flat, fully enclosed footwear must be worn, as this is a health and safety requirement.

“Flat, fully enclosed footwear must be worn. This is a health and safety issue.”

Additionally, Year 7 and Year 8 students must wear a hat in Terms 1 and 4 for all outdoor lessons.

Uniform Strikes & Consequences

To support consistency and responsibility across the school, the following processes will apply:

  • Each time a student forgets their PE uniform, they will receive a uniform strike.
  • This will be recorded in Compass as a Uniform Infringement.
  • An automated email will be sent home to notify parents.
  • After three strikes, students will be issued a PE detention.
  • Strikes reset at the end of each term.

These expectations help ensure students are prepared for learning and able to participate safely in all activities.

House Swimming Carnival

Nominations have now been completed for the House Swimming Carnival to be held at Perth HPC on Friday 6th March 2026. If your child has nominated, you will have received an email from Consent2Go to provide permission for your child to attend. If your child has not nominated to attend the carnival, they will be required to attend school as normal.

Races begin at 9.30am and finishes at 2.15 pm. Parents are welcome to come and watch. Please note there is an entrance fee for parents to gain access to the pool area.

Students will need to be at school by 7:15am sharp ready for an 7.45am bus departure.  They should meet in the gymnasium and be wearing racing bathers with their Physical Education uniform over the top.  Students need to supply their own goggles if they wish to wear them. Students will be transported to Perth HPC via buses.

Buses will return to school by 3.00pm.  If it is more convenient for your child to leave directly from the carnival and not return to school on the bus, students may leave with their guardian or have pre-arranged parental permission (via email to jana.gianotti@education.wa.edu.au) to leave with a friend’s parent. Please note if students have not been collected in time, they will be required to return to school on the bus with returning staff and students.

Students will need to ensure that they bring plenty of food and drink with them as canteen facilities may be limited at the outdoor pool. There will be shade sails available, but students should make sure they also have a hat and sunscreen. Students are encouraged to dress in their house colours on the day to support their houses, but streamers and body paint are prohibited.

There is no payment required for participating in this House Swimming Carnival.

Students have been advised that selection for the Interschool Swimming team is based on results from the house carnival. If students are selected for the team, they must participate and represent their school. This year Applecross Senior High School is competing in A Division.
