Principal's Message

Dear Parents and Caregivers
As we move further into the school year, I would like to extend a warm welcome to all families and acknowledge the positive start we have experienced across the school. Term 1 is well underway, and it has been wonderful to see our new Year 7 students settling into secondary school life with confidence and enthusiasm.
Our Year 7 cohort recently participated in the Big Day In, an event designed to help students build connections, develop teamwork skills, and feel a sense of belonging in their new environment. The day was filled with engaging activities, including rock climbing, the high ropes course, and a range of team‑building challenges. Their participation, optimism, and willingness to support one another were excellent to see.
I am also pleased to share some significant news regarding future improvements to our school facilities. Last week, the Cook Labour Government announced the delivery of a new $7.9 million two‑storey modular learning hub for Applecross Senior High School. This exciting development will include eight new classrooms and will support the continued growth of our school. The new learning hub is scheduled for delivery in the 2027 school year and represents a significant investment in enhancing our students' learning environment.
I would also like to take this opportunity to share that our new substantive Principal, Karena Shearing, will be commencing her role on Monday. We are delighted to welcome her to Applecross Senior High School, and I know she will receive the warm support of our staff, students, and wider community. As I prepare to hand over the school's leadership, I want to express how much I have enjoyed my short time here. It has been a privilege to work with such a vibrant, committed, and welcoming school community.
Thank you for your ongoing support of Applecross Senior High School. I look forward to seeing the school continue to thrive under Ms Shearing’s leadership.
Kind regards
Damian Shuttleworth, Principal (Interim), Applecross SHS
