Advice for Current Year 12s from New Alumni

Sammy Avery ('25)

Throughout my Year 12, what helped me most was learning how important balance actually is. I made sure school wasn’t my entire identity and kept making time for friends, family, and things that made me happy. It would have been a lot more difficult to get through the year in a negative headspace, so ensuring I still was staying balanced and doing things that kept me positive really did make the biggest impact. I tried to work hard during the week so I could properly switch off and rest without feeling guilty. I found that protecting my sleep and mental health improved my results more than overworking ever did. So if I was to give one piece of advice for going through Year 12, understand that balancing school with socialising, physical activity, and hobbies is vital.

Mia Garfi ('25)

If I had to give advice to our new Year 12s it would be to remember to live in the moment because both the highs and lows of Year 12 are only temporary and once they are gone, you will never get them back again. Cherish all the little parts of the day that remind you that you are at home. Walking though your locker bay and smiling at people you wouldn’t otherwise see, laughs that ignite a classroom in the midst of studying, walking to class together with your childhood friends… those are moments that will very quickly become memories that make you smile in the years to come, so do not forget to cherish them as they happen.
