Advent by 5/6J
What is Advent?
Advent comes from the Latin word Adventus, which means the arrival of something or someone important. Advent is the first season of the liturgical calendar. It is a time when Catholics come together to count down the days until the birth of Jesus. Many different countries celebrate the countdown to Advent in various ways, depending on their location and culture - Angelynn & Jayden
The Advent Wreath
The Advent wreath is made of evergreen leaves and is shaped in a circle. It uses evergreen leaves because they can survive in harsh environments, symbolising God’s everlasting love. The circular shape represents the infinite nature of God’s love. Various candles are also placed on the wreath to represent the weeks leading up to Christmas. The Advent wreath is a lovely way to look forward to the birth of Jesus and to reflect on how we can help bring light into the lives of others - Noura, Alec, Maxwell, Thisath & Aiden
Hope, Peace, Joy & Love
The Hope Candle - This is the first candle we light andreminds us to have hope, like the prophets who told us Jesus was coming to save the world.
The Peace Candle - This is the second candle and helps us remember that Jesus brings
peace, and we should be kind and peaceful to others.
The Joy Candle - This is the third candle and reminds us of the joy we feel knowing Jesus is coming to bring us love and happiness.
The Love Candle - This is the fourth candle and helps us remember that Jesus came because God loves us very much.
On Christmas Day, we light a fifth candle in the center, which is called the Christ Candle. This candle reminds us that Jesus is the light of the world, and He was born to bring light and love to everyone. The Advent wreath helps us remember to get ready in our hearts for Jesus’ birth and to share His love with others - Tommy, Liam, Anthony, Matthew, Paris, Charlotte & Isabelle
