JAPANESE STUDENTS VISIT ZIPANG RESTAURANT

Year 10 and 11 Japanese Students Visit Zipang, Hampton

Recently, our Year 10 and Year 11 Japanese students had the opportunity to visit Zipang, an authentic Japanese cafe in Hampton. This excursion was a wonderful cultural and linguistic experience, with students enjoying a traditional Japanese lunch while putting their language skills into practice.

The staff at Zipang warmly welcomed our students, engaging in conversations in Japanese throughout the visit. This real-life interaction allowed students to use their classroom learning in a practical setting, enhancing their oral communication skills and confidence. From ordering food and drinks to using culturally appropriate phrases for eating and drinking, students embraced the challenge and demonstrated their language abilities.

The delicious lunch featured classic Japanese dishes such as udon, yakiniku, and sushi, giving students a taste of Japanese culture beyond the classroom. It was a great opportunity for them to explore traditional flavours while appreciating the customs surrounding a Japanese meal.

During the lunch, students also reflected on their recent exam results. They discussed their achievements and identified areas for improvement, setting clear goals for their Japanese studies in 2025. This self-assessment encouraged a sense of responsibility and motivation to continue their language journey with renewed focus.

Each class was very supportive of their classmates, congratulating each other on the skills they successfully demonstrated. Overall, the visit to Zipang was a rewarding experience that combined cultural immersion, language practice and reflection.

I  look forward to seeing them achieve their goals and build on this experience in the coming year!
