Principal`s Message

I would like to extend a warm welcome to you all as we start the 2025 school year! I hope you have enjoyed some quality family time together over the holiday break. To our new families we welcome you into the Fitzroy community and look forward to getting to know you over the coming weeks, months and years.

As well as welcoming our new families to the school I would like to welcome Stephanie T (1/2C & D), Guillaume D (5/6B), Courtney S (3/4 A&B) Nicholas E (Acting Assistant Principal)  Harris B (education support), Tibeltse G (education Support) I would also like to welcome back from leave Lorna A (Foundation). We look forward to having you as part of our community.

On 30th January we had 26 excited Foundation students start their journey in education. There was plenty of nerves, but they soon made way for happy, smiling students who were keen and eager to learn.

I would like to acknowledge the efforts of our staff in making sure that we are all set up for the start of the new year and off to such a smooth start. All the staff were in throughout the holidays working on setting up their classrooms.

Developing a Partnership with Fitzroy Families

Our teaching and support staff are looking forward to a productive partnership with you to ensure all students can achieve their highest potential. We recognise that in order to be successful in school, our children need support from both the home and school. We know a strong partnership with you will make a great difference in your child’s education. As partners, we share the responsibility for our student’s success and want you to know that we will do our very best to carry out our responsibilities.

We ask that you guide and support your child’s learning by ensuring that they:

  • Attend school daily and arrive on time ready for the day’s learning program.
  • Complete all homework given by teachers.
  • Read daily to develop a love for reading and to improve literacy skills.
  • Practice numeracy skills daily to develop their knowledge of number facts.
  • Share school experiences with you so that you are aware of their school life.

Working and “learning together” we can achieve great results. There will be opportunities for parent involvement within the school: classroom assistance with Reading, Maths or French; assisting at Working Bees; excursions. Parental support of the teachers and the school’s programs is also vital and includes displaying a positive attitude towards your child’s learning, so I encourage you all to be fully involved in your child’s education.

Review and Update Contact Details

As we start the new year it is a good time to remind our families to ensure that all your details are up to date at the school. If you have changed address, got a new phone number or have a new alternative contact please update your profile on Compass so that we are able to contact you if required.

Working with Children Checks (WWCC)

We encourage and value parental and community support at Fitzroy Primary School. There are many ways that parents, grandparents, and friends can assist at our school. We require all parents volunteering at school to obtain a Working with Children Check. These checks are free for volunteers. Please bring your WWCC to the office so we can photocopy it and add your name to our list. Student Insurance – Reminder from DET

Parents are reminded that the Department of Education and Training (DET) does not offer any form of ‘student accident insurance. If families are concerned about this they are advised to make their own arrangements. Ambulance cover could be one consideration as the school will not hesitate to call an ambulance if we are concerned for a child’s wellbeing.

Personal Goods brought to school at the ‘Owners’ risk

The Department of Education and Training (DET) does not hold insurance for personal property brought to schools. All schools are requested to remind students and parents/guardians of this at the beginning of each academic year and to discourage parents/students from bringing any unnecessary or particularly valuable items to school. Please avoid bringing these items as it can be most upsetting for all concerned if items go missing or are damaged.
