From the Leadership Team
Dear families,
Happy New Year and welcome back to what promises to be an exciting and inspiring 2025 at Modbury School P-6! We hope you all had a restful and enjoyable holiday season, filled with joy and relaxation. A special welcome to all our new families joining us this year, especially our new Pre-School and Reception families as they start Pre-School or school for the first time. We know that you will enjoy your time with us at Modbury - as it is a wonderful community.
As we embark on this new year, we are filled with enthusiasm and optimism for the wonderful opportunities that lie ahead at Modbury School P-6. Our dedicated team of educators are eager to welcome our students back into the classrooms, where a world of learning and discovery awaits. We are committed to fostering a nurturing and inclusive environment where every child feels valued and inspired to reach their full potential.
This year, we will continue to focus on innovative teaching practices, ensuring that our students achieve academic success and develop essential life skills through our programs and initiatives that will enhance our students' learning experiences and encourage them to think critically, creatively, and collaboratively.
We also look forward to our community events throughout the year, providing opportunities for families to engage with the school and each other. Your involvement and support are invaluable to us, and we look forward to working together to create a vibrant and supportive school community.
First Day of School 2025
We were so excited to see our wonderful Modbury students return to school on Monday. We were out in the yard soaking up the first-day vibes as our students were able to catch up with friends and see their teachers. It was a lovely morning.
Site Learning Plan
Our Site Learning Plan is focused on creating a positive, inclusive and supportive environment where everyone feels safe, valued and empowered to reach their full potential. Our overarching focus in 2025 will be on Wellbeing - Belonging and Safety, which we believe, for our context, provides the solid foundation for everything we do. Wellbeing is not only about mental and emotional health, but also physical, social and academic wellbeing - all of which are essential for our students to thrive. We want our school community to be one where both our students and staff can grow, learn and feel connected. We have 3 goals we are working towards achieving in 2025 in literacy, numeracy and wellbeing.
Term Overviews
Teachers will post their Term 1 Curriculum Overviews to Class Dojo next Thursday to keep our families informed of the learning occurring for their children in their classrooms. Specialist teacher curriculum overviews will also be posted to Class Dojo for our families.
School Uniform
We expect our students at Modbury School P-6 to be in school uniform and wear it with pride. Our uniform is available to purchase via Qkr!.
Please look over our Uniform Policy, as ratified by our Governing Council in 2024 to ensure your child is wearing our correct uniform.
AGM and Open Afternoon
We will hold an Open Afternoon on Tuesday 11th February (Week 3) from 5.00-6.00 pm. This is a great opportunity for your child to be the leader of their learning area and show you around the school. You may also like to visit our Specialist teachers working on this day - Lauren Fox (Japanese) and Susie Young (Arts) and see their learning spaces. We are looking forward to seeing you on this day. You can also visit our new library space in our Open Space Unit (OSU). Students will be able to collect an 'Open Afternoon Passport' to collect stamps as they visit learning spaces. Completed passports will receive a Zooper Dooper iceblock and then go into our lucky raffle to win a school hat.
Open Afternoon will be followed by our Annual General Meeting (AGM) from 6.00-6.30 pm where we will look at the overview of 2024 and elect our members for the 2025 Governing Council.
Parent Connections
Parent Connections are in Weeks 6 and 7 and will be a great way for our families to connect with their child's classroom teacher. Please read through the information below as teachers will be asking all parents/caregivers the following information to build the successful foundations for each of our students. Our goal is to meet with every family - please look out for the Booking Information via Class Dojo in the coming weeks.
Volunteer Training Sessions
We are excited to announce upcoming volunteer training sessions at Modbury School P-6! Volunteering in our school community is a rewarding experience that greatly benefits our students. By dedicating your time and skills, you can make a significant impact on their learning journey and personal development. Our Term 1 Volunteer training sessions on Thursday 13/2 and Thursday 3/4, will equip you with the necessary tools and knowledge to support our students effectively. We look forward to welcoming new volunteers who are eager to make a difference! Please contact Alysia in our Front office to book in for one of our Volunteer sessions.
Austim Inclusion Teacher
Sheila Flavel is our Autism Inclusion Teacher for 2025.
Right to Disconnect
As a result of the recent Enterprise Agreement, the Department for Education has outlined its commitment to minimising digital communication with teachers to ensure an appropriate work/life balance. Teachers are encouraged to disconnect from digital technologies and communications while taking rest time, weekends, and leave. Please see the attached information.
