We had a very successful whole school dress rehearsal (your children looked amazing) and we are looking forward to our excursion next week to Burrinja Theatre for our two technical rehearsals. This is a great opportunity for everyone to familiarise themselves with the size of the stage, organise lines and spacing, entrances and exits and work with all of our light and music cues. Our backstage crew will also get their time to shine as they work with Mr Scicluna to rehearse all of our scene changes. Please make sure your child is at school on time (Monday/Tuesday) so our bus shuttle to Burrinja can leave promptly. Please remember, NO COSTUMES are required for the technical rehearsals. Your child needs to be in full school uniform and bring a small bag with their lunch, snacks and water. You must notify our office if your child will be arriving/leaving Burrinja by means other than our booked bus.
Other Important Information
Performance Night
Location: Burrinja Cultural Centre, Wurundjeri Country, Cnr Glenfern Road and Matson Drive.
Time: The show will start at6.00pm and finish at approximately 8.30pm. There will be a 15 minute interval during the show and there will be drinks and snacks available in the foyer. Programs will be available on the evening (please bring a gold coin donation) and the show is being professionally recorded.
Drop off: Students in Foundation to Year 4 - to be signed in at the sign-in table in front foyer between 5.15pm and 5.30pm. All 5/6 cast and crew must enter the theatre via the STAGE DOOR from 5.00pm . They also must be signed in by an adult. All children may bring a healthy snack/water and a book or quite game (no electronics). There is a large TV backstage so they can watch the performance.
Collection: At the end of the show the students can be collected as follows:
Foundation: On stage
1/2s: Upstairs
3/4s: Upstairs
5/6s: On stage.
Please make sure your child’s name is marked off on the class roll before taking them home and give us time to collect our things from the dressing rooms after the finale.
Hair and Makeup: If you would like your child to wear basic stage makeup (foundation, blush, eyeliner, mascara) it would be very helpful if they could come with this already applied. Please note that makeup is optional (not a requirement) for all students. The Foundation students will have teddy bear noses painted on and some actors will require character makeup. Please let us know if you do NOT want makeup used on your child. Students in Year 2 are welcome to arrive with face paint that matches their animal if they wish (this will stay on for the entire night). Please make sure hair is neat and tidy and off your child’s face. The Year 3/4 girls need to wear a low ponytail so we can attach a hat and please bring a few bobby pins so wigs and hats stay on.
Costumes: Students need to ARRIVE IN THEIR FIRST COSTUME (see below) and bring their FINALE COSTUME in a clearly marked bag. Some extra costume items will be waiting for them backstage when they arrive.
WE HOPE YOU ENJOY THE SHOW!!!
STATE SCHOOLS SPECTACULAR
Our next rehearsal is our mass HUB rehearsal on FRIDAY 9th August at HE Parker reserve. Please make sure you have gone onto Compass to consent to this excursion (or decline). Itis the school closure day. We have been asked to wear some of our costumes on this day. All dancers should wear their denim jeans, white shoes and their school t-shirt and a ZIP UP JACKET so they can rehearse costume changes. This can be a school jacket, a VSSS jacket or any other jacket with a zip. I will be transporting the VSSS t-shirts and their 'Joy' t-shirts
The bus will leave school at 9.15am and we will return at approximately 3.15pm. The dancers have been hard at work designing part of their costume for VSSS. Such multi-talented individuals. Big thanks to Mrs Haines for supporting our students with this task.
The VSSS hoodie can still be purchased online (see below). Please note that they do not form part of the compulsory uniform and are an optional extra. Students can wear them to school if they wish but please make sure they are named.

Instrumental Lessons
At the end of this page is information about our school's Instrumental Program that is run by Groove Foundations. We offer lessons on most instruments and have an outstanding team of musicians who deliver this program to over 100 students. The first 'trial' lesson is free of charge and your child will get the opportunity to perform in an end of year instrumental concert if they want to. Feel free to contact Jordan Scotney who would be happy to answer any of your questions.
