Curriculum Update

Foundation:

Over the past few weeks, the Foundation students have focused on building their Fundamental Movement Skills (FMS).

Our first lesson focused on a Tabloid relay which asked the students to perform a variety of movements with different bits of sport equipment e.g. Basketballs, Footballs, Tennis Balls and a European Handball. It was great to watch their confidence grow as the lesson progressed.

Our next lessons focused on both Bouncing and Passing. The students learned two different passing techniques, the Bounce and Chest Pass. They practised both of these passes with a partner to grow both their confidence and consistency.

The students then moved to practising their bouncing technique with both their left and right hand. They used a tennis ball to start to help them understand that the surface area of a basketball makes it easier to bounce.

Year One/Two:

Over the past few weeks, the Level 1 and 2 students focuses on refining and building their Fundamental Movement Skills (FMS).

The Level 2 students incorporated these skills into some small team and individual games such as Beat the Ball and Popcorn.

Year Three/Four:

Over the last few weeks, the Level 34 students have revisited two lessons they completed back in Term one, Fitness and Skill Testing. The purpose of this was to highlight and demonstrate the improvement they have made from earlier in the year.

Moving forward, the Level 34 students will commence a unit on striking.

Year Five/Six:

Over the last few weeks, the Level 56 students have revisited two lessons they completed back in Term one, Fitness and Skill Testing. The purpose of this was to highlight and demonstrate the improvement they have made from earlier in the year. Moving forward, the Level 56 students will commence a unit on striking.

Division AFL Carnival

On Monday 29th July, select 56 students represented our school at the Division AFL Carnival and Lewis Park. It's fair to say the weather did not turn it on for the day. To the players credit, they braved the wet/cold conditions did use it as an excuse.

Over the day we played three round robin games before a final's series. We were successful in winning all three games, which meant we would play off in the grand final against Belgrave Heights who were our tough competition at the District Level. The students were tremendous in this game. They followed instructions and played the conditions exceptionally well. We were able to get over the line by 16 points.

We will now compete at the Region Carnival on Monday 12th August at Templestowe Reserve. Congratulations to all involved on the day and a further thank you to all the parents who came to support.
