MATH

This term we have begun learning about Fractions and Decimals. The students have learnt the parts of a fraction (numerator and denominator), how to draw a picture of a fraction and how to find equivalent fractions. This week, we have made connections between fractions and decimals. The students are learning to convert a fraction into a decimal, and are learning how to round a decimal number to a whole number.

Later this term, the students will have the opportunity to explore money, angles and shapes.

ENGLISH

Writing

This term we are learning about types of poetry. The students have learnt how to write shape poems, colour poems and sensory poems. We have enjoyed learning about different types of poems and their features.

Reading

Our class novel this term is Misery Guts by Morris Gleitzman.

"What does a kid do when his Mum and Dad are misery guts? Move them to a tropical paradise, decides Keith. That'll cheer them up. It's a brilliant plan - if he can pull it off."

The students have enjoyed hearing all of the ways Keith tries to cheer up his "miserable" parents. The students have also been learning how to answer comprehension questions in full sentences. Please remember that your child should be reading for 20 minutes each night, and recording their reading in their diary.

PRODUCTION

Production is next week!

Please take note of the following information.

Tech Rehearsal

Night 1: Monday 5th August

Night 2: Tuesday 6th August

No costumes are required for tech rehearsal. Students should be in full school uniform and bring a small bag with lunch, snacks and water.

Production Nights

Drop off: Between 5.15pm and 5.30pm in the foyer of Burrinja. You will need to sign your child in and a teacher will take them to the change rooms.

Students need to arrive in their Spice Girls/Backstreet costume WITH THEIR SCHOOL JACKET or JUMPER over it. We will have the girl’s dancing t-shirts backstage so they will need to wear a different top to the theatre.

Bring their FINALE costume in a bag.

Girls need to wear a low ponytail so we can attach a hat.

Students may bring a healthy snack/water and a quiet, independent activity (book, colouring, drawing).
