Welcome to Term 3

Welcome back everyone to a new term. The students have settled in well this term and were all very excited to see each other after the school holidays. We have been working on consolidating concepts from last term so that we are ready to challenge our learning with some new and exciting concepts. The Year One classes are continuing to work in diverse ways in the classroom including working independently, working with a partner, group tasks and small group work with their teacher. In the first week back of term we focussed on settling back into routines and living our school values, Respect, Responsibility and Resilience.

InitiaLit

Throughout term three, we have learnt lots of exciting concepts and are consolidating previously learnt concepts. In InitiaLit lessons, we are learning new sounds such as 'ow', 'ou', 'aw', 'au', as well as suffixes, bossy 'e' and doubling letter rules. We continue to encourage students to bring their diaries and readers every Friday to help support further learning at home.

Tricky Words

Through the InitiaLit program a range of Tricky Words are taught. These words are referred to as Tricky Words as they cannot be spelled by sounding them out. Due to the nature of the program, the sets of Tricky Words get taught in groups of three and are taught during any given lesson.

You can assist your child at home in many ways. For example try: sky writing the tricky words, writing them on paper or putting them in a highly visible area, such as the fridge and spell them aloud repeatedly. Below are Term 3's tricky words.

MATHEMATICS

During this term in Numeracy, the Year One Classes will be working on various concepts including place value, money and numerical operations. We have seen such fantastic progress and students overcoming challenges within this time; every Year One student should be proud of their achievements.

Over the last few weeks, the Year One students have been exploring location, giving directions and using programable Bee Bots. We were very excited to be using Bee Bots, here are some photos of our work.

Take Home Readers

Each week, your child is provided with the opportunity to change their hard copy reader to read for the week. We ask that the book is read 3-4 times per week and is logged into your child’s reading diary.

Your child’s reading diary and book needs to be brought to school every Friday morning to be checked by your child’s classroom teacher. We kindly ask that all books are taken care of and returned in good condition every Friday.

Students have taken home their MultiLit eLibrary passwords so they can choose to supplement their take home reader some nights of the week.
