What’s Happening in Careers?
Year 10
This group has completed their subject selections after a huge Term 2. We are working through these now and the timetable should soon be in place. Exciting times for this group as they start thinking about their next steps. This term they will start to identify their skills and goals and look at how they can achieve these.
This week in MyPath we heard from Murdoch and Curtin universities to explain what uni life is like and what courses are on offer. I also ran a ‘Ready 4 Work’ Masterclass to identify what employers look for when reviewing applicants for jobs – students were provided with a resume template.
Year 11
UniReady 2025
Applications to be considered for the Curtin UniReady course in 2025 are now open. Students had an information session in their extended form and at lunchtime on Tuesday where they were given information about this application.
This program is suitable for students who have intentions to go to university and are seeking an alternative pathway to ATAR. They need to have demonstrated that they have a good work ethic and sound English competency (a C grade in ATAR English or A/B in General English).
Students will select UniReady as one of their six subjects in 2025. They will also need to enrol in a Certificate IV which they complete on Thursdays. At this stage, we are asking students to indicate which Certificate IV they would be considering but they do not need to enrol until after they have been accepted in the course. Students who are not accepted in the UniReady program can still enrol in a Certificate IV. Queries regarding these qualifications should be directed to Mrs Johnson.
Students will need to complete the online form below before 3:00 pm on Monday, 29 July to apply. Parents will be required to sign this form to endorse the application.
If students meet the prerequisites, they will be invited to an interview in Week 3/4. Students will be advised if they are successful by Week 5.
Year 12
The final term begins! We are checking in on the boys to help out with any questions about what comes next and they are encouraged to organise an appointment if they need support. This term we will be looking at budgeting and how the boys can manage their expenses after school, as well as scholarships. They will also hear from our graduates of 2023 ab what life is like after school.
There are a lot of information sessions at the universities this term.
