Co-Curriculum Report
Snow Camp
Last week our Year 12 VET Sport and Recreation, and Outdoor and Environmental Studies students travelled to Falls Creek for their annual snow camp.
Over two days students took on the challenge of learning how to ski or snowboard.
We were blessed with perfect conditions on the mountain and students showed both skill and persistence.
All students glided down the mountain on various runs and had an experience that they said 'made them feel alive'!
This was their final camp of the year and it was great to have such a fun, memorable and positive experience to mark the end of their journey.
Thank you to Mrs Gotch, Mr Cantwell, and Mr Westblade for donating their time and skill to support our students on this camp.

LMR Soccer
The conditions at Jack Eddy oval were difficult all day for our Year 7 and Year 8 Boys competing at the LMR soccer recently, but not even the wind or rain could stop our boys from playing with courage, determination and pride!
Our Year 7 Boys didn’t quite finish the day with the results they were hoping for but they can all hold their heads up high knowing they gave it everything they could.
Keeping our structure solid during the rain, Ned was fabulous in defence, marshalling the backline. Angus was a standout and saved more shots than any other keeper on the day. Olly also played well scoring seven goals for the day, the best of which, he flew by four defenders and put in the back of the net!
The boys were only 10 minutes away from the State Championships which is something to be very proud of. Well done boys!
SJC v Bendigo East SC: 4-1
SJC v St Josephs College Mildura: 1-3
SJC v Catherine McAuley College: 2-4
The Year 8 Boys came up against Bendigo in their first match and did very well to maintain their pressure in an evenly matched contest and it took a brilliant unstoppable goal from the opposition to take the win.
Against Chaffey Secondary in the second game, our boys made the most of their scoring opportunities and in the end it was enough to hand us the win. Chaffey Secondary School kept attacking fiercely but our defence proved too strong. Harry S stood out in both games and scored both goals for us while Jye B was excellent in defence.
Overall it was a great team performance by all players. Top effort boys!
SJC v Bendigo South: 0-1
SJC v Chaffey Secondary College: 2-1
LMR Junior Football
It was a fantastic day of football at the LMR competition in Swan Hill for our three St Joseph’s College teams.
The Year 7 & 8 Girls fought hard all day and gave it their all. Their first game was a tough one against Catherine McAuley College but the girls held their own. It was a pretty even fight around the ball but the opposition defence was just too good. Michaela gave it her all in the backline with a best on ground performance. Georgina applied lots of pressure around the ground with her tackles and Milla had great clearances all game. Ruby tried her best to keep us in the game but was the only goal scorer.
Against Irymple the girls fought hard but unfortunately couldn’t come home with the win. Michaela was strong again in defence with Sadie applying pressure on the ball. Captain Lily’s composure throughout the game kept us in the fight but this time it was Sarah who kicked our only goal for the game.
SJC v CMC: 7-34
SJC v Irymple: 9-20
Our Year 7 Boys also faced some very tough competition in their first two games but they rallied together and displayed some brillaint teamwork, with each member playing their role to walk away with the wins. Warmed up and on a roll the boys continued their good form to secured a comfortable win in the final.
Arli and Oliver were prolific all day in the midfield. Tom and Mason were important with their run on the wing. Hamish proved a match winner in front of the goals along with Gus while Taj and Ryder continually rebounded from defence.
SJC v CMC: 31-19
SJC v Bendigo South East: 31-8
The Year 8 Boys prepared well for each game and progressively improved as a team throughout the day.
Best players were Charlie, Lyncoln, Jackson, Raudan and Harrison. Match highlights included Charlie’s kicking, Raudan’s straight line running, Harrison's defensive pressure, Keoni’s forward craft, Jett winning in the ruck all day, Jackson leading by example as team captain and Jagger running off half back and setting up play.
SJC v Robinvale: 65-0
SJC v St Arnaud/Charlton: 76-0
SJC v Irymple: 35-7
Both our Year 7 & 8 Boys teams will progress to the next round in Ballarat later in August!
Congratulations to all our participating students and our coaching staff!
LMR Intermediate Football
It was a cold and foggy start for our students as they hit the road early for Swan Hill but the sun came out and shone a light on a great day of sportsmanship!
Our girls arrived at Swan Hill with only 18 players, which meant no bench! But the girls showed great determination and played out all three games to the end.
The first game was tough, with Catherine McAuley applying lots of defensive pressure and not allowing the ball into our forward line.
The second game against St Joes Mildura was a more even game. Lacey and Eliza kicked our two goals and Beth dominated throughout the entire game helping us to seal a great win.
Our third game was close with Swan Hill kicking a goal within the dying seconds to give them the win. There were many stand out performances throughout all three games with Beth, Rose, Eliza, Maddie, Aysha, Teah, Chloe and Emma leading the way.
SJC v CMC: 0-34
SJC v St Joseph's Mildura: 16-7
SJC v Swan Hill: 12-7
The boys kicked the dew off the grass in the first game with a great win over CMC to set the day off on the right foot.
In the second game against Maryborough the boys found themselves in a tough battle and only just got over the line by one point in a highly contested game.
In the final we come up against Irymple, who were a very slick and skilful outfit. The boys tried their absolute best but unfortunately some wayward kicking cost them victory and they come up 8 points short of progressing to the next round.
Best players were Tom, Jett, Campbell, Liam, Jake and Will.
SJC v CMC: 21-2
SJC v Maryborough: 15-14
SJC v Irymple: 17-25
Netball Victoria School Champions
On Friday, August 2 , seven netball teams travelled to Bendigo to represent SJC at the Netball Victoria School Championship qualifying round. The weather was ideal for netball, and our students showcased outstanding sportsmanship and skill throughout the day. We extend our heartfelt thanks to the staff members who attended to support our teams and to the many parents who cheered from the sidelines. Your encouragement was greatly appreciated and added to the positive atmosphere of the event.
Our Year 11 Girls had an impressive start to the day with a convincing win in their first match, but unfortunately were not able to get the upper hand over strong competition for the remainder of the day. It was pleasing to see the girls demonstrate a positive tone and strong performance despite the losses with each of them playing with joy on their faces and representing SJC proudly!
Our Year 10 Girls had a great day winning all five of their games against some tough opposition. They worked well as a team with our defenders picking off intercepts and rebounding strongly, the mid court transiting quickly into attack and our goalers ensuring the hard work of the team was rewarded. Well done to all the players, these girls are very excited to be heading to Melbourne for the State Finals.
The Year 9 Girls also had a successful day winning all of their matches. Our defence was on fire providing plenty of ball to transition into attack for scoring opportunities which were converted time and again. Everyone played hard in their role throughout the day to ensure connection and enjoyment. Teamwork will continue to be the focus for these girls as they progress to the State Finals too!
The Yellow Year 7 Girls team showcased slick skills and great team work to remain undefeated until their last game. A convincing passage of play by the strong CMC team resulted in them going down by 4 goals which was the decider in who would advance into the State Finals. The future of Netball at SJC is bright with so much talent already shining within our Year 7 cohort.
The White Year 7 Girls team faced a challenging day but their commitment and determination to be their best on and off the court was a highlight with each player demonstrating exceptional sportsmanship. While we were not successful on the scoreboard each player should be commended for their efforts and be proud of the way they represented SJC.
The Year 8 Girls Green team showed skilful play on the court. Each game was played with unmatched determination to work together. The day included a bit of everything for this team - finishing with 3 wins, 1 draw and 2 close losses, culminating in a 3rd place ladder position.
The Year 8 Girls Grey team had a wonderful day out, finishing with 5 wins and 1 draw. The girls executed their roles beautifully on and off the court with an excellent display of Netball skill. It was only a small percentage differential that ultimately meant the team would not progress to the state finals stage.
