Auslan News

This week in Auslan, we have been celebrating National Week of Deaf People (NWDP) and the International Day of Sign Languages, which took place during the holidays!

Grade 4 students learnt about what NWDP is and why it’s such an important celebration for Deaf people and our wider community. They also used themed vocabulary to play Auslan Bingo and took part in a fun Kahoot quiz to bust common myths about Deaf people.

Grade 5 students explored the History of Deaf Education, discovering significant events that have shaped Deaf communities over time. Did you know that in 1880, sign language was banned in Deaf schools?

Grade 6 students have been researching inspiring Deaf role models, learning about their achievements and the importance of representation within the Deaf community
