Desert Jungle
To begin the term, Year 3/4 students used Desert Jungle by Jeannie Baker as a Scaffolding Literacy text. Here are some of the individual rewrites we came up with.
Desert Jungle🌵 - By Gabby
I am lost,
I see two eyes staring at me.
I hear growling, grumbling, grouching.
I scream and sprint.
Branches catch my hair
and I trip,
sprawling in the fog.
The Boy - By Josh
I don’t know where I am. I see unseen killing machines spying on me. I hear clicking, cracking, crushing. I panic and sprint. Claws catch my clothes and I stumble in the dust.
Burning Ash🔥- By Daisy
I’m lost. I smell ashy smoke infecting the air. I hear burning, bellowing, booming. I panic and dash. Smoke covers my eyes and I fall, into a pile of burning ash.
🌼The Girl in the forest🌸- 🌼By Talarah🌸
She is lost. She hears heavy footsteps following her. She senses scratching, snapping, slapping. She cries and runs away. Rose thorns catch her skirt and she cascades, in a garden full of roses.🥀
Desert jungle - by Charlie
Popcorn is missing. He is scared and sad. He hears squawking, scrunching, squelching. He hops and runs, he falls into a hole and climbs out slowly, smelling his way home.
I am lost - By Harper
I am lost. I feel soft petals touching me. I hear scrunching, swishing, swashing.
I sway and wander. But vines trip my feet and I stumble, rolling in the dead flowers.

Exploring Rocks and Minerals with Dr Loz
As part of our Building Knowledge unit this term, students will be diving into the fascinating world of Rocks and Minerals. Dr Loz’s exciting workshop brought science to life with a range of hands-on activities that helped us understand how rocks are formed and how they change over time.
Wearing lab coats and protective gear, we stepped into the shoes of real scientists, using tools like UV lights, magnifying glasses, and magnets to investigate a variety of rock samples. We conducted experiments to test if the surfaces were smooth or rough, whether the rocks had visible layers, if they were porous, reflected light, or were magnetic.
These investigations helped us sort and classify rocks and minerals based on their properties — even identifying materials like iron, cobalt, and nickel when rocks reacted to magnets. It was a fun, educational experience that deepened our understanding of Earth’s natural treasures!
