From Tess V, Senior school Art teacher
Over the holidays, the art room received an exciting renovation! The space now features new lighting and soundproofing, creating a bright, calm, and inspiring environment for creativity. The updates have made a huge difference, the room feels more open, welcoming and ready for artistic exploration. Both students and I are thrilled with how the space has come together and it’s been wonderful to see their enthusiasm as we’ve enjoyed our first week of Term 4.
Dragonflies
Grade 4 students have been experimenting with the reverse acetate technique using colourful textas and markers. This creative process allows students to draw on clear acetate sheets, revealing bright, luminous designs when viewed from the reverse side. For this project, students drew detailed dragonflies, focusing on colour, and symmetry to capture the beauty of these delicate insects. Their artworks will soon be transformed into hanging mobiles for the upcoming Art Show.
Steam Punk
Grade 5 students have been exploring the imaginative world of theSteampunk genre in art. Inspired by the mix of history, machinery, and fantasy, students began by sketching Steampunk-inspired insects, focusing on shading and value to give their creatures depth and texture. They then brought their designs to life through collage, layering their sketches over pages from vintage books and embellishing them with wooden cogs and gears to capture the mechanical aesthetic of Steampunk design.
